I'm thinking about building my next system in an Antec P183 and I like the concept of the CP-850:
- Larger to allow more space/airflow between components
- Fan that vents directly through the PSU

I'm just wondering if this is overkill and if it really makes a difference. Anybody have experience with it?

Overkill for what? What kind of difference are you looking for...?

If you're just wondering if it's a good PSU, the reviews are very favourable and it doesn't cost a lot either.

General cooling and reliability. I'm making the tradeoff of buying a proprietary PSU that's probably double the price of what I "need" to power my system. I just want to be sure I'll see some benefit and that nobody knows of any issues with it.

If there were issues with it, I'm sure they would've come up in at least one of the reviews listed. To me it seems to be like most other Antec PSUs - highly reliable.

What system are you planning to pair it with? While the PSU is inexpensive for an 850W unit, a 550-650W PSU would power virtually any single GPU system without any trouble. A good 550W unit can be had for $50-60, 650W for $70-80.
