Hello,

Does anyone own the Antec SX1040B? I?m going to buy a new case very soon and would like to know if anyone else has some descriptive feedback on the case(cooling, how well it holds hardware, things like this) I will be using the case for video editing and such, is this a good choice?

Thanks all:

I have the beige color version and it works great. Dont forget to buy 2 additional 80mm fans to cool your hard drive.

You cant be wrong with Antec..... I have also bought SX830 for a friend and he likes it very much.

Good luck. :)

There are some good reviews on the web.

I have the sx1040. The B is for black as you likely know. Fantastic case IMO. I love the dual removable HD carriages and the sturdy build. It is a heavy beast as a result, but that doesn't bother me.

I have the same case (blame the hot deals forums, they dropped to $95 shipped or so last year), and I *LOVE* it. I only have three minor problems. The first one being that you only get one fan mount for the removable bays (anyone have an extra one to sell? Antec only sells them in twos, so I know another antec case owner out there dropped $10 and has an extra . . .), There is no motherboard tray (although I can understand this), and there are no fan filters by default (the inside of my case looks like a mothball after a month!). There are all very minor though, and I *LOVE* all the little details they put on this case, like the power supply not being stuck at the top, which improves airflow a lot, and those braces to hold the extra rails. Gotta love the handle too, can never go back to screws.

I have the SX830, which is the same size case but a different drive layout, and its the best case I have ever owned. Great cooling, plenty of room inside and built like a tank. The only thing that might make me consider a different case would be if I needed to build something with a smaller 'footprint'.

excellent case, best case I've ever used. I thought not having a removable motherboard tray would be a drawback but it wasn't really. The quality of these cases is probably what impressed me most. I bought the Enermax version with Enermax PS and 3 case fans for $99 at www.newegg.com

I gotta tell you. When people mention the world case to me I immediately think ANTEC. IMO they are the best based on price/performace. I have the SX830 and I don't plan on ever getting another case anytime soon unless maybe the SX1040B.

Thanks for the post and replys, cause I was about to order this case, too. And you guys have confirmed my suspicion...this is a great case. I just ordered the Beige Antec SX840 w/400 Watt PS for $119.02 shipped from EMS Computing. It was the best deal I could find and EMS looks OK from Reseller Ratings. Just thought I'd let you know where the best deal for it was. Thanks again!

I got the SX840 aswell and it is very solid and sturdy. Also easy to get things in and out. You don't even screw the CDROM to case so you can take it out easily.

The fan on psu is rather loud but case cooling is excellant. Always 23c using 4 Evercool case fans, even though the Antec ones that come with it are excellant.

Thinking about this case too, but after several years with a removable Motherboard Tray, I'm wondering how much I'll like it in the long run as many times as I buy new hardware........

I have the beige version of the case, minus the power supply and I love it like a family member. Its sturdy, high quality construction and all sorts of useful stuff. Very nice case. One side note, it is very heavy when fully loaded, so don't put it somewhere where it could tip and fall, incase it crushes someone or falls through the floor :)

I have an SX1030B - with a 400W Antec PSU in it... so you might as well call it the SX1040B, but i bought it with the 300W in it originally, so I have the SX1040B essentially now, but that's not how it came. :)

GREAT CASE!

I have an Sx1040B and the Enermax 330W version. I also built a rig for my pops with the Sx830. These are the Rolls Royce of cases. No need to worry about motherboard tray, plenty of room. Get some quiet panaflo fans with some mesh filters (both cheap) and you have EVERYTHING you need. I can not recommend these things enough. I see no other reason to get anything else unless you are looking for aluminum!!!

I have one and like it too. Note that it isn't jet black - it's more charcoal.

And if Antec is listening - is there any way to make the removable drive bays come straight out, rather than back and out? Since I have a fan in my lower bay, the drive kind of stick out, and pulling the cage usually requires yanking the cables (to make room around the PCI cards).

I'd also like a smoked glass door so I could still use my audigy ex remote control (plus it would look cool).

But all in all a great case.

I you frequent lan partys I would'nt r<SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA">ecomend</SPAN> the case I did'nt realize it till it got delivered, other than that this case r0x. Easy to add hardware I like the locking doors and all the fans.

Before you get that Antec, a word of advise. Lift a lot of weights, eat properly and don't forget your aerobics. That is ONE HEAVY CASE after everything is loaded in it and you'll need your strength and stamina if you plan on taking it to a LAN party!! LOL It is an excellent case and I would not own any other. It's extremely durable, built to withstand a nuclear blast and kinda nice to look at, too. ENJOY!;)

Welcome to the forums bedamie.

This and the 1030sx is probably the most popular case here at anandtech. I have 3 myself and love the air flow, fans it comes with, and looks great.

One major problem is the front door which break at the slightest provocation. All of mine are broken off since it's just a little needle thin piece of plastic acting as the door hinge. It looks awful without the door in place. My recommendation is to look for a motherboard with a "keyboard power on" so your not opening you case door everytime you power on. Or just look into another case.

I have the Antec SX1030B...all I can say is I regret not buying it sooner than I did! This case kicks ass....it's sturdy and loaded with a lot of nice features and details. Plus, it looks sweet no matter where you put it. I also ordered mine from EMS. However, one single complaint..the Antec power supply that came with it recently died, within a month of getting it. Unfortunately, to return it would mean repackaging the entire case and paying for the shipping back to EMS myself. Sorry, but that is upwards of $30 for a 35lb case. I am just going to pick up a Sparkle 300w from Newegg one of these days. (currently have a backup powerman 300w in there :) )

This case, as everyone else says, is great. Lots of room and nice features, BUT as a few have said it is a HEAVY case. I frequent lans and computer competitions and this case is a BIG BURDEN to carry around. The thing with all parts installed weighs a ton. I am seriously thinking about taking off the feet and installing wheels :D But if you dont move your computer around very often it's really well built.

You people must be whimps :( My fully loaded SX1030B isn't THAT heavy, especially compared to my Compaq P900 monitor (which I'm scared i'm gonna drop one of these days . . . I would buy one of those CRT Carrying straps, but the monitor weighs more then the maximun allowable weight!).

I happen to have the plain 1040 version.

this case is a nice solid design. Easy to work in, with plenty of cooling. The drive cages remove with ease. and the slide rails are nice for the 5.25 bays. I love this case. best money i have spent on a case in years.

I have the 1040 and I painted it black myself. Great case.

MrTux
I also got mine from EMS and it was just sitting unused for about 2-3 months. When I went to hook it up last friday, my power supply was dead.
I didn't even think of going through ems for returning. I called antec directly and they said they are sending a new one out Wednesday (b/c of holiday). They aren't even gonna wait for the dead one to get to them. You may want to try that.

I also am looking to buy a new case. Seems like the Antec SX1040 is the case to get considering the raving reviews here in this thread.

I have a question: Anybody buy this case from newegg.com? if so, any problems? Is the power supply an authentic antec PS and are 2 antec fans included?

The reason i ask is because of what deeznuts stated in this thread:.

Newegg states that they are selling a retail version so i would assume that it is not a clone. but i thought i would ask anyway :D
