What can I do to dampen the noise from my rear case fan? I have an Antec SX 630 case and I'm talking about the 80 mm rear case fan that comes with it.
Now for those of you who have it and are wondering what the heck I'm talking about, it's that the computer is in my bedroom and I like to watch DVD's on it - so I need it as quiet as possible.
I've been reading stuff on extra-quiet fans, but I would prefer hearing the experiences anyone in the anadtech forum has had with this kind of problem.
BTW I'm using an athlon XP 1800+ @ stock speed (with the AMD HSF).

hey ikeelu,

i believe i have the same case are you do. this is the one i got: case. we have two of this case in my room, as i got my roommate the same case for his bday.

we went ahead and bought these fans from bgmicro.com. i can attest to how quiet these fans really are, and if u can find someone else to buy them with, they're still a steal at $2.25 a piece (i got them a while ago when they were $1.99 in 10+ quantities).

hope this helps.

A second vote for the Panaflo L1A! 24cfm's of air and 21dBa (virtually inaudible with ambient sound) noise level :) Can't go wrong, considering how quiet these are, and how cheap they are :D

PC Power & Cooling Silencers are nice, but they are expensive compared to the Panaflo fans. i got the panaflos from bgmicro.com and tails from pcmods.com and it came out cheaper. so i replaced the antec fans with 2 panaflos and added 3 panaflos to the front of my SX830 case.

I'd recommend some Panaflo 80mm's from bgmicro.com as well. I just drove down there and picked some up today to replace my 3 Antec case fans and Delta jet engine on my Alpha 8045. I can now hear myself think! It's just a quiet whine, but not like a high pitched Delta whine.. hard to describe. All I can hear is that and a slight sound of air "whooshing." My CPU temps rose about 3-4C, but my ears are telling me it's well worth it. :)
