It is kind of crappy that the Antec Basiq is their only PS with a one year warranty.
All the others AQ3, have a 3 year warranty. Antec AQ3

There are a lot of bad reviews on the Smartpowers, but as I understand it, the TruePowers and EarthWatts are good. I know nothing about the Basiqs, though.

I read that Basiqs are made by Seasonic and don't have the crap Fuhjyyu caps in them.. so it should be a safe buy. Plus active PFC so cheap- nice.

I've only heard EarthWatts are made by Seasonic...TruePowers are not good unless you're talking TruePower Trios (which are Seasonic-made, TPIIs are CWT). The lack of efficiency on this model (<70%) and the fact that the +12V rail ratings are nearly the same as the ones on the SmartPower 2.0 (18, 18A vs 17, 19A) makes me wonder if these are still CWTs...

Antec's spec sheet says:
* +5V, +12V1, 12V2 and +3.3V maxload: 480Watts
* +5V and +3.3V combined output: 152Watts

(480 - 152)/12 = 27.333 A combined.

EarthWatts 500W: * Total: +12V output: 34A

SmartPower 500W:
* +5V, +12V1, 12V2 and +3.3V maxload: 480Watts
* +5V and +3.3V combined output: 180Watts

(480 - 180)/12 = 25 A

NeoHE 500W:
456W combined +12V so 456/12 = 38A

Corsair HX520W:
480W combined +12V so 480/12 = 40A

That's almost certainly not true judging from the specs on this model. Probably CWT OEM.

Rumor I read was that they were FSP. But until someone takes one apart, who knows?

I think so. Once, I only bought Antec power supplies and now I won't touch one with a ten foot poll. I've had far too many Antec power supplies crap out on me in the last couple of years to ever trust them again. If having a power supply is bad enough, I've had a few take out other hardware like hard drives and motherboards.

If you compare the antec basiq pics to the Fortron pics on newegg they look very similar. If you look at some of the stickers on the PSU's they are exactly the same.

so this may actually be a good deal then.

Antec 500W

FSP 500W

I read that as "my friend's hot mom" in which case calls for "pics or ban!" Boy...what a world we live in...

Yeh, I have had two fail on me in the past 3 months. One was a TruPower (cant recall the watts, but it was from the Sonata) and the other was a TruPower Trio bought in December 2006. Antec's quality control has gone downhill.

Same here, my sonata p supply went out. They will warranty only with a reciept and sent me a 350w basiq to replace the 380w it came with. Sure doesnt look as quality as the one I sent in but at least it works.

One would think that for a warranty claim they could squeeze a lil more and give an equal or better replacement. Things must be tight at antec.

Cost of shipping is of course on the purchaser.

I have an ancient "Antec True 430W" (not TruePower) that's been powering rigs for 6 years. The old Antec was actually pretty decent, sad to see them crapping out these days.
