I'm in the process of putting together my Aria, waiting on Fedex to deliver my mobo. I'm using mostly parts i have laying around the house, so it's not going to be a powerhouse or anything. I ordered the Shuttle MN31L mainly because of the Nforce chipset, i'm not even sure whats so great about the nforce chipset, but it seems like it's the good one to get. Anyone with technical details, i'd appreciate some input on whether or not I made the right choice of mobos.
I'll be using two 128mb crucial pc2100 memory sticks, and a 1.4 ghz athlon, one of the older ones, i think it's a Palomino, and it runs hotter than one of the new chips like the Athlon XP, but i'm hoping the heat difference will be negligible. For a heatsink/fan, i have a SPA04B4 WhisperRock IV, i'm hoping that it will be low enough to fit, as i've read many reviews stating that the overhang of the power supply limits what cooling solutions you can use for the processor. The shuttle mobo comes with built in dual vga, so i'm going to stick w/ the onboard video for a little while. For a hard drive, i'm not sure what to use, i have an old laptop hard drive, which i think would be great for space and cooling in the aria, but if i can i'd like to use an old 30 gig 7200rpm maxtor i have. Finally for a cd rom drive, i have a 4x cd burner which i will be using until i can save up for a good dvd burner. Overall, the only money i'm really spending it the $100 i paid for the aria, and $70 for the mother board. So as long as I can make it a nice efficient running computer i'll be real happy.
