I replaced the Delta fan on my Vantec to a 80mm Antec fan. Here are the results using the mobo therm and Asus PCProbe:

Delta fan temp : ~43 C
80mm fan (fan blowing out) temp: ~47 C

This was done on a fairly cool night 55~60 deg F.

Delta fan is cooler but the Antec is SOOOO much quieter, it's a worthwhile trade-off! Now I can leave the side panel off without having to put on earplugs.

One interesting note, the mobo temp was at 27~28 deg. C. What gives for almost 20deg C in difference???

I would try to rig up two quieter 60mm fans side by side as opposed to an 80mm, it should work much better and still be quiet.

Hmm, 2 60mm fans....that's a possible consideration. I have to say though, this was a cheap alternative to buying yet another HSF. :D

The 80mm fan had a Molex connector if that's what you mean, Apple. If you're talking about how I put the 80mm fan on the heatsink, I just pried the blades (or fins??) of the heatsink out like a fan-shape and screwed on the fan on top.

If you've seen the Vantak or the Globalwin CAK38, the screws holding the fan are just screwed in between fins.

I may try flipping the fan around so the airflow is going towards the heatsink.
