Antec 800/1000 series vs. Chieftech cases

This is a repost of sorts because it seems worthy of its own thread.

A receint THREAD in the Hot Deals forum noted that many or all of the Antec power supplies are made by Channel Well Tech. Of particular interest is the 400 watt version CTW-420. If you read THIS REVIEW, the author claims in no uncertain terms that this power supply is the same as the Antec 400W'er.

While receintly checking out the Newegg case selection, I came accross a couple the the Chieftech cases (same as Antec 800/1000 series) that is carrying this very same power supply. Newegg link to power supply photo.

The nice thing is that the Cheiftech cases are quite a bit cheaper than the Antec versions - as much as $50.

One thing that did come out in the Hot Deals thread is that their are a couple of different versions of the CTW-420. The Turbolink branded version of this supply is not the same so be careful.

What do you folks think?

I think I'd encourage someone you don't particularly like to try the Channel Well PS and let you know how it works.

Why gamble with such a critical system component as the PS?

I've never seen a posted complaint about Antec power supplies, except for the noisy sleeve-bearing fans (a complaint I share).

Well first of all Antec does not actually manufacture anything, they simply purchase parts from overseas suppliers and box them. This is clearly evident in the fact that several different companies are selling the exact same cases as Antec.

Secondly, Channel Well supplies power supplies to Antec. Check out the specs for the CTW-420 HERE and for the Antec PP412X HERE. The specs are the same. Also check out the photos - Newegg has actual photos so you can see the real thing. They are the same.

Lastly, check out the prices of the cases at Newegg.

The Chieftech brand cases with CTW-420 ps costs LESS than the Antec versions with the 300W ps. The 400W Antec version cost almost $50 more.

What gamble?
