I was planning on buying this case:Plus 1080 AMG

I was reading through reviews and I stumbled across this problem that a reviewer had. He says that he had a problem with his graphics card a GF4 interferring with the hd's that he installed. I am building a system with a 6800 GT which is longer than GF4's and I was wondering if I would still be able to use this case with that card. Anyone that has used this case before can you shed some light on the problem.

Thanks

I have a PlusView 1000AMG with an ATI Radeon 9800PRO. Still have a couple inches to remove the HDD cage. If the card gets too long the HDD cage can not be removed without removing the video card.

If the hard drive was mounted elsewhere and the HDD cage removed it would probably work fine. But this kinda defeats the HDD cage fan mount.

An alternative to the case would be:

Adding a power supply will put it within ~$35 of the 1080AMG.

I think you should be fine. As Rusty said, at worst you may have to shuffle a drive out of that one slot in the rack. Heres some pics of a 9800pro in a 1080amg I built for a friend. It's a tight fit here only because of the abit serillel IDE to serial ATA adapter.

There should be no problem with the hard drive clearance unless you put an 80mm fan inside one of the drive cages. That makes the HDDs stick out farther. Here's mine. I have the 80mm fan to cool the RAID drives but it makes them stick out kinda far. I have to pull out the cables in order to negotiate the HDD.

BTW: What are your thoughts on this case. Has it been good to you?

It's got plus's and minus's but it's overall very good. One of the best looking of the big Antec cases.I would rather have something ready for 120 mm fans, and I have never liked having to open the drive door to get to the power switch. Yes I turn my computers off at night.

Mine has been very good to me. I like the door as it keeps dust and some people out of my system. My only real complaint is the fan clips did not like the small wires running on the outside of my LED fans. A little fiddling with (moving) the wires on the fans fixed the problem though.

I have the 1000AMG (basically the 1080 with a clear side panel and no power supply I believe) and I like the door as well. This was my first antec case so building this rig was a dream compared to my old cheap no name case. I did run into the same problem with LED fans, specifically I could not slide the drive cage (the one with the fan clip in it) back into the case for a while, but solved that problem by sticking some paper to the outside of the clips to make sure they were straight and it worked fine. Other than that, I love the design. The side panel is so easy to remove, fan clips are easy to use, very roomy, cool locking HD cages... Great case.

Did any of you figure out how to close the front door? I can't close mine with my optical drives in?

Huh?
I've even had a rehobus with big knobs fit behind a closed door.

It closes perfectly if you put the mounting bar thingies in the right spot. I had them on the wrong way for a long time and it wouldn't close. It also looks much cleaner when you do it the right way. Fool around with them a little and you will figure it out, should be pretty obvious.

Yes, the front of the rails should end up about 1/8 inch behind face of drive. The face of the drive should be flush with any original blank plates you have installed.

To the OP: how many 3.5 inch drives do you need? As you can see in the pictures, there are two cages and if you can fit what you need in the top one you could just keep the bottom one out of the case.

I couldn't remove the drive cage with a 9800 pro in it. Granted it was because of the mess of wires I had. The top cage doens't have cooling so some people might care about that. Can only fit two drives in the bottom cage though because a long video card will interfer with the middle. Considering how huge the 1080 I don't see how any other case could be any better.
