I'm planning on getting this case for my new system but not sure about the colour. Do you guys think the dark grey colour would go better with black or white/beige drives?

Nice, I've been considering painting a case with that color changing paint but I think it would cost around $70 for the paint alone.

Dunno sold the Rig...But the Customer never complained and it was reported in the OS...In the past when the front ports wouldn't take, neither would the device in the OS. You do present a good inquiry though and I'll have to make it a point to hook up an external USB2.0 HD or something and checking before letting it out the Door...Thanks

The front ports are just passthroughs, right? As long as it's not a hub, USB2 or 1.1 shouldn't be any different.

As for drive color, I don't mind the look of beige in the 1080AMG at all. I haven't seen a black drive in one, but I would think the colors would clash.

PS. Beige drives in Antec's AMB models look fantastic.

i thought quality of wires matter to get usb2.0 speeds which is why usb2.0 products ship with own extension wire, so consumer doesn't use old wire which would limit speeds.

There are higher standards for USB2.0 cables(although I'm pretty sure many quality 1.1 cables meet those requirements).

I don't think the connectors on the front of the case would differ, tho. The cable leading from the case to the motherboard would almost definitely have a higher than standard quality casing.

EDIT: I don't see any mention of 1.1 or 2.0 on Antec's site or in the manual. There is a member named AntecCSR on the Ars Forums. I'm sure he could find out for sure if you posted a question with "ATTN: AntecCSR" in the subject.

Tried it on a Sky Hawk Case and the Front USB Inputs would only work and register as 1.1's no matter which port I plugged it in in the rear...tried it in the MoBo USB2.0's and even in a PCI USB2.0 card...Antec, Chief's, Enermax and Lin's work so far...but I would think that the quality control would not be stringent with that device so some lots may not.

FYI, as someone with over 20 Antec cases in the work fleet now: Until recently, the USB cables leading to Antec's front-USB ports were a flat, rainbow-colored ribbon cable. Obviously no twisted-pair action going on there.

I got a couple of 660AMG's from newegg which came with a round cable that externally resembled Antec's front-Firewire cable. Obviously I'm not going to disect one to confirm its interior construction, but I'm hoping these are designed to spec so they don't hamper USB 2.0 protocol. We got a couple of 660AMG's from CompUSA somewhat later which did NOT have the round cable, so YMMV.

AntecCSR did say that he/she thought their case wiring would be ok at USB 2.0 speeds here However, that could be incorrect.
