ANSWER plz: Case+Mobo Wire confusion

Hey guys...

Im currently building a computer... Rather TRYING to build. And i kinda need your help, cuz this is HARD, and I ofcourse got no manuals (rather I DO, but they are written by ESL Tawiwanese ppl)... No help whatsoever.

First of all, the I/O mobo metal backplate that came with the case does not match the I/O pannel that came with the mobo. Which one do I use, because I am not sure of how to insert the mobo backplate.

Also my case came with 4 different sets of screws including gold plated ones, long ones and etc.. (if you requre pics, ask me, I'll post em on asap). What goes where?

And final question so far is: my 2 fans have 2 connectors, male and female. Which ones go where, considering I have an LCD controller. So my mobo has some sockets for the fans, and the controller has some sockets. Which ones do they go to? For example the CPU fan socket. I got a socket for it in the mobo and a socket for it in the LCD fan controller. If I hook it up to the fan controller, will there be no way to control it from the mobo???

Anyway thx for reading and answering.
Thats all for NOW.

use the motherboard backplate, pop the toher one out with a screw driver or something, and the other one should pop in quite nicely with some force (im not too sure what u r talking, pictures for this would help me, some others might give better advice)

the long gold screws are to connect the motherboard to the tower, lay the MB down and lines up the wholes

not to sure about the fans, di ont no what a LCD fan is, yah pictures again woul dbe nice for me

You might want to skim through this guide really quick. Over 100 photos and hopefully the right amount of info. If you don't have a hardware firewall, pay attention to the Resources page for sure. :Q Don't want your freshly-built system being taken down by worms off your broadband connection... 🙁

As for the front LCD thingamabob, it will probably draw power from a 4-pin plug that plugs into the power supply's standard 4-pin plugs. Then it can power fans and report RPMs (if the fans are the RPM-sensing type). You don't have to use it. You can plug your CPU fan into the CPU FAN header on the motherboard (read your owners' manual for its location if it isn't clear).

If you need further help, make sure to post allllllllllllllllllllll the details of your computer (brand/model of everything including the power supply). 🙂

Soz my webcam is not too sharp, it doesnt show details so i kinda stopped taking pics with it its useless...

Anyway I got a P4 3.0C on a DFI i865pe Lanparty mobo, with Ultra 1gb PC4000 Ram.

I installed the 3.0C on the socket... but WAS I SUPPOSED TO TAKE OFF THE PLASTIC THINGY ON THE HEATSINK? The instructions didnt say so, and the plastic thing didnt say so. Also do I apply the whole packet of my thermal paste? Cuz i think thats kinda too much for such a small chip.

YES!!!! Remove the plastic thingy. And you thermal paste is there only to fill the gaps in the contact plates. This should be a BARELY visable film. so you should maybe use like 1 ml of paste (no, you don't need to mesure it) and throw the rest away. Next time you buy a chip, order some good stuff, like Artic Silver that comes in a resealable tube or something. That way you can use it for like forever. I have a tube from like '99

K, go slow and take care or your'e gonna break something 🙂

YES, remove the clear plastic from the bottom of the heatsink b4 installing. The plastic is there to protect the surface from scratching. I know AMD has good instruction on their website for installing a cpu, particularly on how to use Thermal compound. Maybe Intel does also.

It's likely that the cpu fan must be plugged into the mobo header or it won't post. That's for the cpu's (overheat) protection.

Just try to get it to post with the bare minmum (cpu w/hsf, ram, vid card) and go from there. DO remember to either unplug or turn off power at the psu rocker switch to avoid damaging any components when removing/replacing them.

Good Luck with it.
