Another Year Without Duke Nukem 4ever

I still remember that November 97 (i think) issue of PC Gamer that got me all hyped up for the game. Now, 11 years later, still nothing except a crummy trailer and a new Wallpaper

In 2006, I bet a friend $100 and a copy of the game that we would not see Duke Nukem 4Ever released before December 31st, 2009 (ie the last day of this decade). Looks like I'm about to be $100 richer in a year. I don't expect to have the game anytime soon though. 😉

A lot has changed. In 1997 i was a pimply, awkward high schooler. Now i'm a pimply, awkward adult.

that wallpaper looks badass

I gotta say, if they're still working on it after all this time, I would simply be amazed, that is a lot of development time/money.

You missed the memo about a name change for the game. It's now called Duke Nukem 4Never. 😀

I thought it was going to be Duke Nukem 5: The Search for Duke Nukem 4Never.

11 years of salaries and pensions without producing a single salable product (on that specific project).

you think the UAW is bad.....

please bring back jon st. john for the voice. otherwise it won't be duke 🙁. he did every single duke game so far.

I'll be disappointed if it comes out. It'll ruin a long standing internet joke :^D

We had a crackhead at work, that didn't show up, but he'd always say he was coming in tomorrow. This went on for over a month, every single day... One day he actually came in :^O It kind of spoiled the fun :^D That was the last day he came in, and he didn't call anymore :^(

Nice wallpaper! 🙂

Seriously, been waiting for this one for so long! I saw some new screens the other day here:

http://www.3drealms.com/duke4/

(Another game I've been waiting for is Alan Wake by Remedy).

From those screens it looks to me that the engine is UE 3.0, is it? If it's not then it's very similar.

"duke wants you to stop stealing our bandwidth"
lol that's awesome

Maybe a company like id or Valve could make a parody called something like Luke Dukem Fornever, then maybe a little subtitle "Half-Life 3"

I still have faith they'll make this game. How long did it take Valve to release that Team Fortress 2 they promised? 8 years?

Yes. It's actually heavily modified Unreal Engine 2 (according to wikipedia).

If Valve tried to make a parody of DNF it would probably come out a long time after DNF itself.

Good point. EA or Ubisoft could probably pump out a good parody in 6 months 🙂

I actualy wouldn't be shocked if it came out sometime in 2009. I wouldn't exactly bet on it happening, but I'm just saying I wouldn't be shocked by it either.

Supposedly last year a bunch of DNF staff got canned and the rest of the staff were told to get the game done by the end of 2008 or else... there was an article on this, somewhere.

I feel that TF2 is a bit different though. The entire game was scrapped and redone. Not just an engine change, but the game's concept was heavily altered. Originally it was going to be almost like BF2, and obviously that's not what we have now. Not to mention the many changes in personnel and rights ownership that took place.

I bet Duke Nukem 4ever turns out to be nothing more than a mediocre game. Probably won't even sell that well, most of the people that remember the game are likely to be in their late 20's or older by the time it comes out and not playing as many games anymore.

Also, I bet the game will run on just about every console and even have a DS port.

To think, World of Warcraft has spent as many years being a massive success as Duke Nukem Forever was late to release at the time WOW came out.

I'm in my late 30's now, and have been gaming on PC's since I got my 8086 Compaq Deskpro back in 1986. I still game quite a bit, most guys my age do - we were the first videogame generation.

I'd probably play DNF if it turned out to be good. I did enjoy the first one, especially playing multiplayer with my brother over modem. Don't know if we'll ever see it though.

I'm in my late 20's, still into gaming a lot. Sure my work eats a lot of the day up but whenever I get time in the evenings (when I'm back home early) I play games alright. 🙂

Honestly, those graphics looked pretty good. If they more or less just released Duke3d with updated graphics, I would buy it most likely. I still don't see how that company is still in business though.

that's sorta what they did with Doom 3. I liked it but it seems as though everybody else in the world didn't

Rumor is that they are now developing for the Unreal 4 engine and it is going to be developed for console primarily and may be ported to the PC.
They had to make this significant change due to the cost of game development being so high they could not make it primarily for the PC and expect to turn a profit.
Release date is still WID (When It's Done),but fans can expect it sometime after 2012 or sometime after the next version of the Xbox and PlayStation 4 ships.
George hopes to get this project finished before he dies.It will be his legacy.
