Im having distortion and volume loss with my Z-340's and X-Fi. All the cables are securly plugged in, and the speakers work fine. I get a weird crackling sound after I pass half, which sounds like wind. Im right now re-installing the old drivers, then Ill reinstall the new ones off Creative's site. Could someone help? Update: Distortion is gone, but I still dont have volume controls.

I guess use driver cleaner and specify to wipe all soundblaster drivers. Then reinstall the latest 'update' ones from Creative's site. I don't think you need the old ones first to do the update actually.

Yeah, installed the newest updates, and make sure you install the rest of the software off the CD to get the volume panel.

Naw I'm having no trouble with my 64 bit drivers
You're doing something wrong there, man.
I've never had a problem with my X-Fi, I don't know why it's happened to everyone but me....
If you want volume controls hit control panel, sounds and audio devices
check off the box that says volume controls.

You say you're using onboard - are you setting the primary sound device to the X-Fi when you test to see if it's working?

creative has never seemed to have the best driver support... hope you can get it fixed
When you had the X-Fi in did you fully disable the onboard in the BIOS? Kinda a dumb question I know and you probably already did but just checking, some BIOSs have 2 spots that it needs to be disabled in (like a MSI board I had awhile ago)

But can't an X-Fi do all of that?
I have no problem listening to music and gaming at the same time...

I mean they would have one card that would be better for games and they'd use that for gaming.

They would have a different more "pro" / "audiophile" oriented to use when they were listening to music.

(Not for use at the same time)
