He may be blind but even he can see what's just.

NY Gov issues directive that the state update it's policies to recognize same-sex marriages performed in CA and MA or foreign countries where it is legal, such as Spain.

NY dems have tried to pass legislation authorizing same-sex marriage but have been stymied by senate republicans. This is an intermediary and forward looking step until such legislation is eventually passed within the state.

I anticipate thousands of NY couples heading to CA and MA pretty damn quick.

So why are some taxed more? And why does the gov't participate in and condone affirmative action programs?

Why can't everyone be the president of the United States of America at the same time? Why have a authoritative structure in place at all? Did I really need to specify very particularilly what I was talking about, or were you just being a moron?

I'm glad my current governor isn't some hypocritical jerk and is doing something positive for the state.

Edit:
Removed off topic stuff to help keep the thread on track.

That said, I think this thread is going to spin out of control soon. ;)

Indubitably. Wait till Atreus gets here and asks why Paterson won't also recognize polygamy :p

No fair asking questions above your grade level. The answers would only confuse you and make you argumentative.

You scoff, but next he'll be recognizing people marrying monkeys, or cats marrying basketballs, or nouns marrying adjectives. Gay marriage is the gateway drug of matrimony, and will plunge our society into anarchy and chaos (which are due to be married next week).

I have no problem with this, so long as there is no constitutional or other restriction that would disallow the governor to do this.

That being said, I'd still prefer the state only recognize civil unions for all (gay or straight) and leave marriage to churches as a religious sacrament, as I've stated in numerous other threads.

marriage is a religious institution.

Then why on Earth is the United States government offering tax incentives to married couples that are not offered to single people? "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." I could've sworn the Constitution was still the supreme law of the land...

True, and to be honest, the government has zero business being in the marriage business in the first place. They shouldn't recognize same sex marriage or traditional marriages, period.

A better move would be to remove any type of tax advantage/disadvantage from any kind of union. Tax people equally, and instead of wasting time on crap like this, find a way to work out insurance so that non-joined insurance can be possible.

First of all there is a point where you pay more taxes if you file as married. AKA marriage penalty.

But the main purpose of government recognizing marriage was to normalize estate transfers to spouses.

Agreed, but what is the solution to estate transfers? I guess we can get rid of the estate tax.

LOL I think most of us that work for a living most of our lives would be MORE than happy to do away with ANY concept of redistributing the wealth. ;)
