I have a dell xps one currently with a core2duo e4500 processor in it. The system board uses the intel g33 chipset and i am wondering if i could bump up to a e8500? According to intel's website, the g33 chipset would support the 1333mhz bus speed of the chip. Both processors utilize 65w but the e8500 is based on 45 nm as compared to the e4500 being based on the 65 nm technology. Both are socket lga775 so im pretty sure physically it would fit. I just wasnt sure if the different technologies would make a difference? I thought i read somehwere that the 45nm technology was basically just more power in a more efficient design. Would this new processor generate a lot more heat and any thoughts on whether or not it would work?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your best bet would be to see if Dell offers a BIOS update that supports the 45nm chips. Likely your board supports it, but best be sure.
