Pontiacs are nice? Maybe to those who just can't lose the boy-racer in them. Maybe if they lost all of that tacky, useless body molding...

I agree for the most part (Aztec, ect.), but the Grand Prix & Firebird have stayed away from this trend for the most part.

Hasn't the X-Type been spanked in every single magazine comparison test to date?
Strange that your father would narrow his choice to such a wildly different set of cars.
Anyways, I'd take a BMW 3 Series or Audi A4 over the Jaguar.

He actually tried looking at the Audi but the dealer refused to talk to him...so he's not going to bother. Also he's not quite to fond of it's looks (

).

I've told him to go check out some of the BMW 3 series models, but he just hasn't had time to go look at them yet. He doesn't seem to be too interested in them however...not quite sure why.

Both good ideas, but probably not gonna be his chioces.

The X-Type has too many Ford underpinnings for my tastes. I believe it shares parts with the Mondeo (the European Ford Contour). It's also rather small.

Who recommended the X-type drove one? It's the biggest POS I've ever driven.

Tell you dad to drive them all and make up his own mind.

However, it wouldn't be right if I don't vote for my cousin Trans AM. :D

id go with an is300 or i35 before going with the x-type. out of those, id go with the subbie, even though its not as 'classy' you get more out of you money and you have plenty left over for other things :) (i accidentally voted for the x-type, man im a clutz =\)

I'd rather stick a broom up my arse and try to fly before I bought a Pontiac. I would have said X-Type, but believe it or not, they are getting horrible reviews! Automobile Magazine said the exhaust detached and dragged on the road during their testing, and there were several squeaks. Definitly not typical-Jaguar material (this one sounds straight from Ford, going against the British grain). My vote is the Subaru. Cool of a car as it is, there are better pics in this class. Can you say Audi A4?

My dad's sorda doing the same thing but he has already narrowed it down to a Mustang GT or a used Cobra.

The WRX is cool but can you really see a 50+ year old driving one?

How bout a Mercedes 230c kompressor?

the jag is the only thing left.

Don't know what the price will be, but I went to the dealer today to drop off my Passat for it's 10k service. I talked to the sales manager, and he told me the w-8 Passat will be out in a few months. I believe the engine will be rated at about 290 hp. It's going to be a sweet car, and with the VW, most of the extra cost options of the Audi come standard.

The Jag is an unreliable, ugly (imo) POS...
If those are your only choices, go with the WRX over the Jag and save some big bux.

Ask you dad to look into the Infiniti G35 and test drive it. He might like it. Or he can wait and go for the 350Z when its released.

Ugh, the X-Type is just a badly recycled & overpriced Ford Europe product... sheesh, even Euro magazines say that the original Modeno is a better value since you can get leather seats and etcetc with it too. It's not refined... it's overpriced and you'll get better refinement elsewhere.

If you want a more "luxurious" car for around that price, I would have suggested the A4 wagon, but since the dealer acted stupid... mebbe another dealer, if not... forget it. One of my friends loves Saabs, I guess that's another possibility but one I personally don't prefer.

... and I agree with the G35 suggestion. The Acura TL/CL TypeS is just an Accord Insight... good price, but you might as well buy an Altima :D
