Read that earlier. That's why I either only offer food to homeless. 9/10 times they will reject it. The only time I give money is when the hobo is asking for change for beer or weed.

Yeah I think food is the best option. You can always tell the fakers when they reject it & get mad at you for not giving them money. If they're truly hungry they'll take it.

As for the panhandlers that are doing it for drug money, if we could figure out a way to subsidize their habit and keep them from doing crimes to support it that would be a positive for society in my mind. It would be better for everyone, take the crime out of drug use, and the savings could be used for drug rehab.

But America has a hard-on for being tough on crime and would rather pay to jail these people than actually do what's best for society. Same goes for helping those with mental issues. We'd rather soak up the damage and cost to society than pay to deal with the problem up front.

Democracy doesn't work when the voters are idiots.

This is so common. When I was in school I had a friend who did valet parking in Beverley Hills and he said there was a beggar who always parked his brand new Benz in their garage. I have seen the same thing in Mexico too. Had a couple of 5,6 year-old kids beg me for money and start crying when I told them no, then I saw them go give their money away to their pimp in a Benz.

It's not a new Benz. Readers have said it is difficult to tell but could be anywhere from 2002 to 2009 (when it was discontinued).

That sickens me. I have a friend who was almost killed on the red line through Hollywood because a schizophrenic homeless guy hit him in the forehead with a pipe.

I remember being on the other side of that one time. I had been backpacking in Yosemite for a couple of weeks and I was carrying this giant pack, clothes and boots were dirty as hell, I was super tired after being away from civilization for two weeks, and I was sitting outside the Merced Greyhound station at night to catch a 4AM bus back to LA. Some guy came by and offered me a meal, which I turned down because I wasn't homeless (guess my two week beard said otherwise) and I had just stuffed myself with two double double + fries + shake meals at the In N Out a couple of blocks away anyways. I wonder if he thought I only wanted money for booze! haha

meh, i dont really have a problem with this, it's still work! (it takes work to get out there and find the good spots, and to actually put that money into a a bank account, or buy a car with it.....more power to her!

a young man was obviously stranded the other day at a gas station i was filling up at the other day.... i saw him looking kinda down, standing by his car by the pump, just looking like it was the worst day of his life! eventually he got the nerve up to walk over to an older guy (he picked him over the cars in the pumping area who were all families, with kids and such) well, i guess the guy said some mean things to him because he quickly turned back around and went back to his car, but i did overhear him saying, "it's okay, thank you anyway." as the older guy kinda shook his head and actually made eye contact with me (i was accross from him right then at the adjacent pump) and shook his head disapprovingly.. like i was supposed to somehow identify with his disdain for this poor guy who was obviously having a bad day, and was STILL polite to this old geezer.

after he left i walked over to the young man and asked him if he was alright, he said he was only about 10 mins from his house but was out of gas, and didn't have cell phone service to call anyone for help.... i gave him a $10, he said "God bless you."

i watched him afterwards, and sure enough he went inside and put that 10 in his gas tank.

some people have no compassion at all for others... we could do with alot less of those types on this planet.

I had a hard-to-understand guy probably in his 50s approach me. He said something about his woman, setting her straight, needing to catch the bus, and some other stuff. I was kinda like "Huh?" (I at least want a decent story before I am forced to give money to some guy in fear of my car being damaged), and he was like "Nah man don't worry, I ain't gonna treat her nasty or nothin, I just wanna talk to her" and I was like "Yeah OK sure" and handed him $2. Did I enable an act of spousal violence?

It costs a lot of money to set a woman straight, usually about $1.49.
