Another WD 200gb is messing up on me!

I bought one when they first came out, from Fry's for $120 after the rebates. Started corrupting a few months ago so I RMAed it. Now the replacement is doing the same thing. Damn WD! My next drive is going to be a Seagate. My 80gb Barracuda is still running fine after being put through unimaginable hardship, such as not being shut down properly then being transported 150 miles in my stiffly suspended car.

seagate && maxtor > western digital

at least in my personal experience. every WD drive i've worked with has had problems.

I haven't had any problems with WD, my main beef is with Maxtor. Ever try a different IDE cable to see if yours is somehow damaged? How hot does the drive get during normal use?

For the most part, I've had nothing but bad luck with WD drives. However, my 80 GB WD Special Edition drive (got a great deal on it; couldn't resist) hasn't really given me much of a problem yet. I generally stick with Maxtor. I have a bunch of old Maxtor drives that still work like champs. I've had 4 bad WD drives in the last 4 or 5 years (that's pretty bad...).

Two drives in a row? Sounds like something the user is blaming on the manufactorer for their errors...

Where is the drive - does it get airflow or is it overheating....

I'm not saying its impossible because it might be possible but I'm just playing the skeptic right now...

Ditto!

I love these..."I had 10 XXXXX products in a row fail but I'm too narrow minded to think it could be a problem elsewhere"....posts!

I know what I am doing. It is NOT the psu. This is a new powersupply. Sparkle 400W. The old one, an Antec 400w, I replaced because it had a bad motherboard connector. Two different powersupplies and overlapping harddrives.
And it is certainly not cooling. I have a Lian Li PC60 with a 92mm fan in the spot where floppy cage would go, with a bent piece of sheet aluminum directing air downward onto the drive.

Certain Western Digital HD's are becoming the new deathstars it seems. I had my 2 120GB JB ones bearings die, my seagate 120GB has been fine, and my 30GB maxtor is 4 years and still runnin, so it aint my PSU or case/airflow.
