It's a quart. Over the course the summer, assuming you filled up a 25 gallong tank once a week, it is only 6.5 gallons.

i dont get it, doesnt the pump measure out a gallon no matter the temp?

I agree. Life is way too stressful if you count pennies like that all the time. Still, it was an interesting read.

It's pumped out of underground tanks - wouldn't most of the gas cool to ~55F before it's sold?

Sounds like a problem that doesn't warrent a solution. If the stations were intentionally heating up the gas to do it, then it's a problem.

Yes, but a gallon at 90F != a gallon at 60F. They have the same volume, but different mass.

I'm surprised that this isn't the case in the States, it has been up here in Canada for quite a while.

It is probally because since our temperatures are usually lower, if they didn't adjust for a set temperature, the oil companies would lose money and not the comsumer.
