Another way Lincoln was a tyrant.

He believed that only an absolute majority of representatives should be necessary for govt action and he believed that everyone would have to agree for the govt to not take action.

Why should an absolute majority be sufficient for the State to act while unanimity is required for it to remain idle?

Lincoln believed that rights came from the State while Jefferson almost[1] believed individuals have an inherent right to rule themselves... doesn't that make Lincoln the completed antithesis to Jefferson and the Founding Principles of 1776?

[1] I used "almost" because he believed that the State was necessary to protect the inherent right of individuals to rule themselves.

I don't think tyrant means what you think it does.

http://i.word.com/idictionary/tyrant

You sure about that buddy?

A tyrant (Greek τύραννος, tyrannos), in its modern English usage, is a ruler of a cruel and oppressive character[1] who is an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution, or one who has usurped sovereignty.

a : an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution
b : a usurper of sovereignty
2
a : a ruler who exercises absolute power oppressively or brutally
b : one resembling an oppressive ruler in the harsh use of authority or power

If you still don't think so I have to question what you really know about Lincoln. I wouldn't blame you though. Our public schools/government are to blame. Go read "The Real Lincoln" and get back to us.

If he believed rights came from the states then I don't see how he could be or even thought of as an "absolute ruler".

But what do I know, I went to a public school.

I think I read it already, it's the one where Lincoln kills all the vampires, right?

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide. No escape from reality. Open your eyes. Look up to the skies and see.

The entire Constitution, was written by tyrants, and it's only valid today because of the Bill of Rights.

Therefore, it is supremely important, not to give up anything in the Bill of Rights.

Because you know for sure, the Government wants to take it.

Yeah this doesn't help your argument. At all. Do you really want to remain in ignorance and post drivel? Or do you really want to know? You decide. Your responses will dictate your decision.

What's done is done. Lincoln was a hypocrite that was forced to hold the nation together - and he payed the price for it....

\and the nation was better off for what he had to do...

If I read it will I be smart like you? Will my posts be as good as yours?

He was killed by aa lone nutter assassin. He probably was close to doing something that will benefit the country and not the leaders.

If you do it to be like anyone else you are doing it for the wrong reason. You would think that it would be a natural instinct to shed ignorance for knowledge. Apparently you value one more than the other.

That's highly debatable and one of the points addressed in the book but the fairy tale they portray in public schools is far from who he really was. Can it change anything now? No. But that doesn't excuse ignorance.

Lincoln a hypocrite? Only a person who lives in a concrete-bound black and white world would make that claim. There is much more complexity involved that simply calling him a hypocrite.

I prefer to see the big picture, please tell me about this author and his qualifications and why you think he should be given more credence than all other historians before him.

Because I know a historian that frequently gives lectures at progressive think tanks and is a frequent guest at the ACLU and even did a few lectures for the new black panthers and has written articles for the new York daily and has done guest spots on msnbc. And she says something different than the OP.

So whome am I to believe?

not even the schools fault fully either. in the last 15 years there has been a major re-write of lincoln. later stuff has him as a crusader of blacks and freedom. That the reason he got to be president was just so he cold free the blacks!

I believe the tiny fraction of people with racist, hillbilly lineage and the wacky anarch-libertopians should be listened to above all else. THEY have the facts, the rest are all ignorant.

Actually the re-write came one day after the Civil War when some -mostly southerners- began distorting their vile actions and goals with bogus appeals to liberty and states rights.
