A friend has a 2001 sentra. When he pushes in the clutch it isn't disengaging. There were no signs of slipping, and this happened all of the sudden.

Dealer says the entire clutch assembly (pressure plate, disc, etc) needs replaced.

any other opinions? it's a hydrolic clutch

How many miles?

Get another opinion, it may be the clutch slave cylinder, air in the lines, leak, etc..

sounds like the clutch slave cylinder went bad. this happened to me a couple of months ago, clutch just went out over the course of a few minutes. check the brake fluid level and see if it is below normal or half of the resevoir is empty. usually the fluid used for the brakes is also used for the hydraulic clutch. the slave cylinder should not be very expensive, or hard to change. mine cost around $40 and I put it in myself in under an hour.

can you pull the car out of gear? or is it stuck in one gear? if it is stuck and you cant get it out, then I dont know what your problem is.

.

Are you saying the pedal stays depressed?

If so, its as others have said and probably the clutch slave cylinder, its either wore out or leaking. Is there fluid in the resevoir??

Its possible it could be the master cylinder, which is the cylinder directly connected to the pedal, but very rarely go out.

I'll ask again........How many miles??
