whenever i go online, explorer crashes. Makes no sense to me. Anyone seen this before and know what might be to blame?

More info please, why were you called in,what fixes have you done to the system thus far?

Uhh you're not helping us alot here.

Does it say fatal error? Does it just close? Does it have any error messages? I'm assuming you have reinstalled it?

Oh here's a biggy

Do you mean internet exporer, or explorer? They are WAY different things.

Explorer is the program you use to browse within windows.

sorry, its a win98 machine that i went to for internet connection problems. The original problems have been fixed but now i get an illegal operation on explorer and it closes whenever i navigate around online for a few minutes.

hope that helps

That's not uncommon - to get IE crashes. It's a software issue... new software added on top will screw it up.. anything can crash it. WIN2k and XP's IE seems to be less vulnerable to this behavior. I really think the best thing is to reinstall the OS because right now you're looking for a needle in a haystack... there's no one specific issue that can cause this. I guess the least you can try is to reinstall IE if that's at all possible.

There's a virus that causes that. You'll need the MS patches.

its 98, the virus i believe you are referring to is sasser or blaster, they only affect 2k and xp. microsoft is no longer realsing patches for 98 anyway

You've run what thus far, adaware and spybot?

What error code are you getting?

Did you back up the client's data yet? If not,do so before proceding any further
