it was in newark which is less than 45minutes from me but they send it to Philly which is is like 3hours away
 
If this was a ground package, yeah it'd be strange. But UPS and FedEx air services all go through certain "air" hubs before being routed to the local ones. In this case, it arrives by air at Newark before being processed at Philadelphia, then it'll head on over to you in New York. Just look at any of your air shipments and I'll bet all or almost all of them do the same thing (or through one of them over in Connecticut).
