Hola, I'm looking to upgrade from my EVGA 8800 GTS. I prefer to stick with EVGA because of the warranty. The games I play the most right now are Oblivion, FO3, FO3: NV, Napoleon: Total War, Dragon Age.

Present card runs these ok, but I like to mod these games so I get some stutter from all the graphic and gameplay mods. I was looking at a GTX 460 - will it be good enough to run these at ~40-50 fps consistently?

Appreciate any input, thanks

I've read that Dragon Age benefits more from CPU power, especially quad cores, than video card (assuming the 8800GTS isn't bottlenecking it)

The GTX460 seems to be about 3-4x as powerful as the 8800GT, so maybe 5x as powerful as your GTS? For $180 that's a pretty huge upgrade.

if you are not going to use a sig then ALWAYS list ALL your specs in detail when asking about upgrade advice.

GTX 460 should be over double an 8800GTS in games that aren't CPU bound:
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/178?vs=180
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/...tml?prod[4511]=on&prod[4544]=on&prod[4545]=on

So if you're at ~20ish FPS or higher now, then you'll be at or above 40-50 FPS with a 460, if not CPU bound to something lower.

Hard to say if the mods you're talking about are taxing CPU or GPU, it may be worth cutting your CPU multiplier some to see if it's CPU or GPU bound. I know some of the Morrowind mods were more CPU than GPU, isn't Fallout a similar engine? Total War and Dragon Age are both pretty CPU intensive. Probably worth some experimentation.

we don't even know which 8800gts he even has. really threads like this are almost usless until the op gives his current comps details including res.

a gtx460 1gb or even 768mb will be good for you. even a gts450 would be a pretty large upgrade but for just 15-20 bucks more you can have a much faster gtx460 768mb.
