ANOTHER UPDATE: TDK 12/10/32 Rebate issue with Buy.com

When i first heard about this deal I went straight to Buy.com and bought a TDK burner.

THEN I read the post detailing why I "may not" get my rebate from TDK. The reason I say "may not" is because even after a call to buy.com I'm still not sure if anybody knows what they are talking about. The CS I spoke to said they "should" honor the rebate.

Bottom line: If i send in the UPC code and it's an unqualifying reciept I'm screwed. I can't get my UPC back, so instead, I went first thing this morning to CompUSA and bought the same TDK burner. I will send a copy of that reciept in with the rebate When the buy.com burner comes, I will return it un-opened to CompUSA.

Now before anyone flames me about anybody ripping anybody off, FIRST, CopmUSA is getting an un-opened burner back so no harm there, AND I get the $50 bucks from TDK like I expected in the first place.

End of story.

Richter,

The problem with this situation is the fact that retailers pay back part of the rebate to TDK, and in this case, CompUSA will have to pay back a part of a rebate on a product that they DID NOT sell. The only getting screwed here is CompUSA, it's not as harmless as you think.
