"Unarmed football star, 18, shot dead"

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...ack-teen-killed-driving-car-article-1.2403984

A promising young football star was shot dead in Virginia Saturday after the unarmed teen got behind the wheel of an off-duty police officer’s car without permission, witnesses said.
Paterson Brown Jr., 18, was shot in the parking lot of a Richmond car wash after a confrontation with the unidentified plainclothes officer, reports WTVR.
Brown, a recent graduate of James River High School, reportedly commandeered the officer’s vehicle and drove it through the Better Vision car wash about 9:40 a.m. after he and friends pulled up in a car behind the man.

No weapon was recovered at the scene and the officer was not treated for injuries, officials said.
Brown is the 29th unarmed African-American to be fatally shot by police in 2015, according to the Washington Post.
When is enough going to be enough?

I get the impression you didn't read your own article.

"Brown, a recent graduate of James River High School, reportedly commandeered the officer’s vehicle and drove it through the Better Vision car wash about 9:40 a.m. after he and friends pulled up in a car behind the man."

"The unprovoked action prompted the officer to confront Brown, who witnesses said remained in the vehicle after he was asked to leave."

"The witness added that the off-duty cop was in tears in the parking lot after the shooting."

"He didn’t want to do it,” a witness told the Richmond Times-Dispatch. “He tried and tried to get him out.”

More details are needed obviously, but this already doesn't appear to be a case of an innocent kid just minding his own business who runs afoul of an asshole cop on a power trip. At this point I will not condemn or condone the shooting, but I will say Brown created that situation, and certainly seems to have been given the choice to end it without violence. He choose poorly. If memory serves, in Virginia you can shoot to protect your property. Kid would likely have been shot if it wasn't a cop, probably without the attempts to get him out and the tears afterward.

Alternatively: 18 year old steals cop car, confronts officer in parking lot, gets shot. Yeah, "promising" kid right there. That article is hilarious; "commandeered the officer’s vehicle", amazing.

I guess this is why we have Project Graduation at high schools across the country.

Kids graduate high-school, and the first thing they do is leave their brains in their locker last day on the way out. This smacks of the stupid shit Michael Brown did, and in a similarly point in time.

A quick Google search for other articles suggests that there is video surveillance of a physical altercation between Brown and the officer. I'm not sure whether or not that justifies the shooting, per se, but it does suggest the kid wasn't just sitting in the car as apparently worded in the article at BET, "According to local reports, the unidentified police officer asked Brown to leave the vehicle, but the teen remained seated in it. That was apparently enough for the cop to fire one shot at Brown."

Will have to see what comes of this except the usual outrage from both sides. On page comment did suggest somewhere did suggest the cop was also black, but I haven't seen this written anywhere in an article.

troll title motion for ban.

There isn't anything in the title that isn't completely factual. Taking a more serious tack, it's certainly no worse than the hack jobs that "legitimate" news outlets have done to similar events in the past.

As sad as the taking of a human life is, at least he wasn't tortured to death via getting tased in the fucking balls while chained to a chair complete with a prosecutor that somehow couldn't get a conviction for anything above (relatively) jaywalking tickets.

I will say this, as little as we know so far, at least the officer showed compassion. It's the ones that can shoot a puny unarmed kid laying on the ground and then be "ok" that really worry me.

Good shot. One less idiot to breed and teach his amazing life skills to his children.

Jesus, at least the officer had some empathy for what happened. You have got to be at least borderline, if not an all out, psychopath. Cheering on the death of a kid.... You should be studied cold.

And I guarantee you this will get more media attention because whipping controversy makes better "news" than clear egregious misconduct. There should be an ongoing national outcry over Ajibade.

I can understand that view regarding career criminals who do nothing but leave misery and pain in their wake, but a (stupid) teen with no priors?

Dude.

This is just sad all the way around. Sad for the cop who probably acted justifiably and sad for the kid who threw it all away...and for what? A prank? A few thousand bucks for a stolen car?

I know I am harsh on cops who seem to get away with doing wrong. But you should be allowed to use force to protect your property, be you a cop or not. If someone takes your stuff and fights you when you try to reclaim it, then I'm fine with escalating that force and doing what it takes to protect yourself.

Police regard vehicles as deadly weapons. So long as you are in control of one and you appear threatening to them... every second you breath is a bonus.

43? I'm just guessing.

On the positive side you have a 99.9999% chance of surviving. I bet the percentage of survival is even multitudes greater if you choose not to steal from a police officer, nor initiate a fight with a police officer.

You do know he was being sarcastic with his post, right? He was attempting reverse psychology.

True but if the resume is lacking, shouldn't the 'compensation' reflect that? Let's not give interns CEO level pay I guess is what I'm saying.

Unfortunately not all situations provide ample time to break away and run a proper background check, gather a more complete set of facts. When you force someone else into making quick assumptions about who you are and what you intend to do, the accuracy of the assumptions decreases.
