Now there was only one armed person in the compound who was killed during the early part of the operation...This completely contradicts the 40 minute firefight story we heard Sunday night where we were supposedly told that the entire operation was being watched in real time.

With all of these contradictions and story changes that have happened since Sunday, it is getting harder and harder to believe anything the White House is telling us...

Hearing to that Obama and team did not watch the shootout occur. Apparently the helmet cameras were inoperable, or turned off, during the actual compound raid. So, the pictures of them "watching" may have been nothing more than a photo op.

I heard on npr they were there for 40 minutes total not a 40 minute fire fight. Where did you hear that?

If that is true, SecState Hillary Clinton deserves an Oscar. :D

40 minute firefight was said the first day.

I suspected that was wrong, that most of it was searching for things like computers.

I've heard both as well, each from multiple sources, probably just reporter confusion in the haste to get the story out. I lean to the former: 24 SEALS that have practiced on a mockup of the compound so much that they could walk it blindfolded from memory would not take 40 minutes. They would have unleashed such an overwhelming amount of force and violence on a surprised enemy that I just don't see it taking 40 minutes of actual firefight.

These days the mass media couldn't find their own ass with both hands, so its hard to say who fault it might have been. Even in this story their so-called "facts" come from mysterious "US officials". I'd wait a few days for the media feeding frenzy to die down and see what the more reputable news organizations have to say.

Really? You're going to use this as your moment of government distrust?

It's called, everyone loves to be the first to get info out to the public, and the public loves to get every possible detail as soon as possible (because otherwise there is a conspiracy at foot!)

It leads to honest errors and misinterpretations.

The other option is, the media collectively stays silent on any and all details, say for two weeks, for all the accounts to come in and analyzed - but then you'd be distrusting that as well, probably even more so! There is no pleasing some people. I'm not sure why they even try, honestly.

The op is accusing the whitehouse of misinformation.

Sigh...from the article that most of probably didn't read

Four of the five people shot to death in the operation that killed Osama bin Laden, including the al-Qaida leader himself, were unarmed and never fired a shot, U.S. officials told NBC News on Wednesday — an account that differs markedly from the Obama administration's original claims that the Navy SEALs came under heavy small-arms fire in a prolonged firefight.

For those who prefer pictures over words, here is a picture timeline that shows them coming under fire from Bin Laden himself. Article that pic is from is linked below pic.

Why keep making these statements? Is the administration just trying to make us look bad? Why not just say "OBL is dead" and shut up?

The whitehouse said their evidence gave them only a 99.9% chance it was Osama they killed. That ain't 100%! There is the proof this is all a hoax! Otherwise they would have said 100%.
