Today at work the boss was trying to sell a TV. Turns out he was selling one that I already had sold. He called me over and asked if if was sold. I said, "Yes, thats why its tagged as sold." (Its a $4k plasma TV that is part of a $15,000 deal) He starts getting all worked up because he screwed up and told his customer it was in stock. He tells me he is going to sell it and try to get another one in for my customer, and I tell him that my customer could come in anytime wanting it. He keeps getting madder and madder until he starts swearing at me. I tell him not to swear at me. He says. "I willl do what I want and I am going to sell this TV." I tell him he cant since its paid for. He get about 2 inches from my face and says "I'll kick you @ss!" I tell him not to threaten me. He gets this weird look in his eyes and says "I'll kill you, you little mother <fill in the blank>"

At this time I decide I need to either walk away or things are going to get nasty. I tell him he isnt going to do anything and that I dont have to be treated like that. It just so happens that our regional manager was there today. Our regional is about 3 steps above the boss that was threatening me. I go to punch out with my boss following me yelling at me. He realizes that his boss is there and cools out. I am still worked up so I tell the both of them that I dont deserve to be treated like that at work, and that me leaving wouldnt be the end of this.

The regional takes me aside and tells me to cool off until my boss' customer leaves. Fair enough. After his customer leaves we all go in back for a little meeting. My boss of course denies everything and his boss takes his side (he would have to in order to cover the company's rear.) The regional tells me that I need to get over it and "pull the weed out of my ass." Then the regional said he had to leave.

This really sucks. I dont know if I even want to go back to work. I dont know what my options are, but I definately plan on finding out.

CLIFF NOTES:
I get into an argument with my boss
Boss threatens to kick my read/kill me
His boss tells me to get over it
I dont know what to do next

if this isn't the first time he threatened you, then it isn't the last. Do like yobarman said and carry a recorder around when you work until you have solid proof.

LOL...no cameras.

It would be my word against his if anything happenned. The other employees did hear the regional telling my boss in pretty strong words that he cant talk to people like that.

I'd call the police and simultaneously file a civil suit. There was no reason for the regional manager to cover your manager's ass that way.

I was tempted to call the cops, but what could I prove?

I really am confused. I have to work with this guy everyday...

You have a lot of options. being threatened at work is serious. If you don't like your job, you always have the option of bring suit. Both for what your manager said and what his boss said. most likely it would settle as a nuisance suit in the range of $4K-$12k depending on what state you are in. If you are in CA, you will get a nice settlement. Gotta love the EEOC....

wow, you should have provoked him a little more so that he hits your first, and you were forced to kill, um, er I mean defend yourself.

that sucks dude, and threatening somebody's life is definately a police matter.

Does this happen frequently? Try carrying a voice recorder with you, and if you get into another arguement, start recording. At the very least, the regional guy would no longer be able to deny anything.

Seriously, get a tape recorder... if the guy pulls the same crap again, nail him for it.

Any good lawyer will work on a percentage of settlement. They won't charge fees up front. Find one of those. Then sue the hell out of your workplace. Also I like the tape recorder idea in case your boss threatens you in any way again. If he does, it doesn't even have to be a death threat, it will make him look guiltier in court. Don't tell anyone you are suing, and look for a new job while you can.

Sounds to me like GoodDad is asking if he should even go back to work. Think having his boss called into a meeting by HIS boss is going to get him any sympathy? I would be looking for a new dept or job altogether by now.

meh...I think I am going to have to find a new job.

But getting a job that pays as much as I make now will be hard. I have been working at my current job for 5 years now. The only thing I know how to do is sell. The job market in Michigan pretty much sucks right now too.

Were there any other employees around that overheard the threats that could be witnesses?

Get a recorder. Record this up when it happens next time. (Oh, it will happen again, don't worry.) Then sue. This is bull.

If that doesn't work, vandalism is the great equalizer.
