I read through all the TIvo threads that went around but didn't see anything that quit fit my question. I want to be able to record a show, movie whatever then be able to watch it (basic tivo or vcr functionality) but if i want to keep the show for a bit so my wife or I can watch it again or if we can't get to it right away, I would like to be able to put it on a DVD and remove it from the HD. Without buying one of these can TiVo do this? Either by hooking up to my home network or anyother way.

TivoToGo will be released in August. In combination with the HMO option you will be able to download the shows to your computer and burn them to DVD. The TivoToGo is a USB dongle that ensures you aren't streaming the shows (via the network) to people who don't have a TIVO.

Buy this, install in your comp, hook the line out on the tivo to it and record to your harddrive, then burn to a dvd.

This looks like the best thing so far. I don't care about streaming or sharing, nobody want's to watch my kids shows all day. :) I just want it to work like a VCR again (When I get TiVo) and since TiVo to go is about to come out I think I WILL go for it. Can TiVo function without a subscription? I don't need all the special stuff, I know when I want to record and for how long I don't care about something doing it for me.

That card bunker just won't fit into my notebook but I think I have inputs already built in? Maybe not. Maybe a usb device...!

Thanks for the Info!

Older series 1 TiVos work like a VCR when no subscription is present. I think the new ones in stores now are useless unless you pay for the subscription service.

The Tivo will not work without a subscription. The exception to this is the Tivo that has a DVDR drive built in. It has free "tivo basic" service, where it functions like a VCR.

You may want to get a ReplayTV instead, there's a program called DVarchive that allows you to access the Replay over your home network and pull off the video files. You can then burn them to a DVD with your home PC.

This is exactly what I want but I hear replayTV is going out or something.

no replay just got bought by marantz/denon, they arent going anywhere... plus they have real commercial skip on all but the last generation of replays (got sued by some advertising company)... thus the older ones are worth more ;)
