Another terrible web design trend

I noticed a lot of sites now put those stupid floating buttons on the side of the page, and no matter where you scroll they follow, and block half the text. WTF is the point of that crap? I always end up having to block the element just so I can read the stupid page. Though most of the time I'll just hit the back button and try another google result.

What ever happen to more simplistic web design? It seems today's web design is a race to find the most annoying things to add to a site. Oddly, sites that should be fairly static text and pictures are the worse for it.

You gotta share... why don't you share? Do you not like the share?

I never use them, but one share on a Facebook feed could equal dozens of extra views = $$$$$. And I think Google's search rankings is now partly based on social media shares.

i've seen those and agree they are annoying, however i've never seen it block the text like that. all the sites i've seen that use that bar have the text indented enough that it isn't blocked behind the bar.
