I don't think the TIE Fighter would have much agility in the atmosphere either. Also the fact that the SR71 has no weapons does kinda make it one sided. But, the SR71 is probably much faster in the atmosphere than the TIE, it could likely outrun it. I do not recall the TIEs have any sort of guided projectiles either.

It'd be better to compare an air superiority fighter against the TIE. An F-22 or F-35, for example.

SR-71 is not a dogfighter.. it can barely turn.... its designed as a top end speed at altitude aircraft..

If the TIE drops into the atmosphere exactly right, it could fall like a rock onto the SR-71 and take it out.
