Another Tbred/Barton question.

Did some searching but couldn't seem to find the info. May not be looking in the right place. I am using a 2100 tbred B in a epox 8rda+ rev1.1. 2 x 512 Crucial 2700 that I have at 180 stable. I can not run 200 fsb in my board. Tried with some 3200. No go. So my limit is 180 or so. I have my 2100 at 2.2 ghz as of right now. What kind of performance boost can I expect from a Mobile Barton running at same speed? plus the potential of raising the multi and possibly getting 2.4-2.5 out of it? Case has plenty of cooling with a Thermaltake SK-7(?) cooler.

Another benefit of the new cpu is that I can pass mine down to the wife and her 1.33 tbird to my daughter so it wouldn't take too much of an improvement to push me into buying one. Just sure would be nice to see a noticable improvement on my end.

Running WinXP pro, Raid, and 9800np btw.

Thanks

so basically we would be comparing a 2.2ghz T-bred to a 2.4+ghz mobile barton ?

in that case, i would expect performance to be only appreciated by an enthusiast with the urge to upgrade 🙂

basically the extra cache only gives a few % improvement (and it's benefit is very dependent on diff programs)
but it should overclock a good amount more than the t-bred and offer performance near or better than a 3.2ghz P4 when overclocked 🙂

I have 2 8rda+ motherboards - one has an unlocked nonmobile 2500+, the other one has an xp1700+. Both running at 2.3 - 2.35. To be honest I wouldn't upgrade for a really big performance boost. These unlocked mobiles seem to get the most bang for their buck from fsb increases; your ddr333 will hold you back on that. On the other hand, yumm, mobile - if you're planning to upgrade your motherboard and memory soon.

That's not to say I don't love my barton; I do. I just think with your setup it won't get you too much increase if any as is. But if the upgrade bug bites you hard, a mobile's a nice thing to have! I keep looking at them too
