Hey all first poster long time lurker here.
Yesterday I bought a used gigabyte ga-z68x-ud3h-b3 From Craigslist.
I Put in a core i5 3330 that I had laying around.
Currently the board is setup on a cardboard box. Just the mobo, CPU, and a stick of ram.
The system won't boot. the cpu fan spins and the system turns off after about 10 seconds. No image on the screen. The cpu does get hot when it is on. The speaker doesn't beep or make any sounds unless I try and boot without any ram installed. I have tried a different power supply but it only has a 4 pin cpu plug where my mobo needs 8. So I plugged it in anyways as I've read elsewhere it should still work and still the problem persists.

So what do you guys think? Bad PSU or Bad Mobo?

PS: For what it's worth the Craigslist seller said it was 100% working and is confident enough that it is to offer me a refund.

Did the seller tell you what BIOS he had? Because that board didn't officially support Ivy Bridge until F12. So you may just want to ask the seller if he will put the latest BIOS on it for you, since he supposedly still has a CPU that works with it.

Some motherboards will work just fine with just a CPU 4-pin plugged in (like some Asrock boards), but I looked in the manual for the motherboard, and it does not state that using one 4-pin connector instead of 2 x 4-pin is an option.

Also, like Puffnstuff mentioned, if you didn't have a heatsink/fan installed, the system might not boot as well. Plus, it's a very bad idea to do that regardless.
