Okay

Got my router up and running with the newest firmware. It connects to my isp just fine, I'm currently connected to the router with the computer that I'm typing on so I know the router is working. My problem is that my second computer (My Rig) will not connect to the router. My computer is running Win2k and it can't seem to obtain an IP address. When I reboot it takes forever for the little icon to popup in the tray and when I look to see what IP it obtained it is just your basic 169..... ip address meaning that it hasn't connected to my router. when I type "ipconfig /renew" it just sits there with a blinking cursor. I know the cat5 cabling is okay I've been using it all day today before my router came tonight from UPS. Anyone had a problem like this in Win2K. Our old computer which I'm using now had no problems although its running Win98SE. I need suggestions, anybody.

okay little bit of an update

I took a cable from the router to an old hub I have. I connected it to the uplink port on the old hub. Plugged my win2k machine into the old hub. Bam it automatically hooks up to the internet. Anyone have any idea why in the heck this works but hooking the computer straight up to the router doesn't?

What NIC do you use on the W2K machine? Try another one, sometimes some switch may be incompatible with some certain NIC....

You might also need a crossover cable to hook the NIC straight into the router... really weird if that was the case, but I have seen it a couple of times.

Okay I've figured it out. It has something to do with the connection type on my network card. I can either select, 10 base T, 10 base T Full Duplex, 100 base TX, 100 base TX Full Duplex, automatic. The only one that will work is 100 base TX Full Duplex. But then unfortunately for some reason when I select this my IRC goes nutz and doesn't seem to work right at all. I can't log onto fserves in IRC. I have the linksys 10/100 pci network card and its always worked great up till now.
