Another share issue

I'm having a hard time creating a share that would allow access only after a login/password is entered. Last time a created a share, that was the default behaviour, I think (Share: everyone, full control, Permissions, left unchanged). I would enter the login/passwd for the computer owning the share.

Now when I create a share, it's not immediately accessible from other computers, even with Share perms set to Everyone, Full Control. The only way I could make it accessible was by adding Everyone to the NTFS permissions (share is also Everyone, full control). That's not good, obviously, because anyone can access my files since no password is required. I reviewed everything against the info I could gather from the net, but no success.

So, why that little window does not popup anymore? Could it be related to recent updates. BTW, I'm using XP Pro, SP2 on all computers, Simple share is off.

Thanks!

I'm having the exact same problem and posted it in a thread just yesterday.

It must have been a recent update. It really wasn't that hard to establish the network with username/password before but now it just does not work following the same steps.

Oddly, when I enable Simple File Sharing on the server, it works fine without a password. If anything, this is less secure. 🙁
