I just built a new Pc utilizing the CDRW (TEAC-516EB) drive from my last Pc. Well, everything was fine until I loaded EZ CD 5.0 Platinum. First off, the drive was "not supported" even though the roxio website claims support for this drive beyond version 4.0x and above. I downloaded the latest patch for win98se. I started noticing that the CDRW drive would no longer consistently recognize any CD. For example, if explorer was open at the time of loading any CD, the drive would often not update to reflect the volume label or the file contents. This happened despite the CDRW and harddisk lights indicating activity shortly after closing the cdrom tray. This problem also occurs to my memorex 48x cdrom when add it to my system. I have swapped cables, etc.
I have verified EZ CD Creator as the culprit because the drive recognizes all cds when I uninstall the software. I don't know why the problem is happening, as the drive and EZ CD Creator worked great in my last machine. Here are my current stats:
Win98se
Shuttle AK31 V3.1
Via 4in1 ver4.36 (issue occurs with and without these)
512mb DDR mem (also happens with only 256mb installed)
Athlon 1400mhz (not overclocked)
Maxtor 60gb HD
ATI Radeon 8500
TB Santa Cruz Soundcard
Actiontec 56k Call waiting modem
I?d like to solve this so that I can use Take Two and DirectCD. Any thoughts?🙁
