Here is my rig:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1860MHz

Motherboard: Intel 975X ATX

Memory: 2048 MB of G-Skill PC2-6400

Video Card: ATI Radeon X1900XT

Hard Drive: Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74.0 GB @ 10000 RPMS

Additional Hard Drives: Maxtor 160GB @ 7200RPMS
Hitachi 250GB @ 7200RPMS
Maxtor 300GB @ 7200RPMS - external

DVD R/W: Pioneer DVR 108

Storage Interface: IDE,SATA

Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS

I would like to plan to be able to add a 2nd video card in crossfire config so need to figure that in for the PSU wattage.

I'm considering the CORSAIR HX620w PSU but am thinking that $180 is a bit overkill.

Any advice on size and recommendation on PSU would be greatly appreciated.

I run 600W & 620W on my 2 rigs. I got excellent deals on both and since it doesn't hurt to be safe, I opted for the Seasonic & Enermax.

I see quite a few of these inquiries about PSUs and when I finally decided IMO, that it was better to go 600W or better. I don't have to worry whether its just OK or whatever. I see so many threads about PSU failures and underpowered PSUs, what the heck, my rigs deserve it, so get the better or best PSU.

There are so many frills out there but I'll stick to the basics and do it right from the beginning. It's your choice, good luck.

If the above is true...Why not a pair of Enermax Galaxys @ 1kw each. They will each support four procs and four graphics cards... each. Sheesh!!
Stop posting in PSU threads until you do some study on the subject *wagging finger*

OP, a good 500W unit is all your system needs.

Since my opinion is my own, I will express it wherever. Thanks for your concern but the OP can decide for themselves whether my point has some validation or not. I must include IMO next time.;)

Thanks for the input so far. I've tried using the PSU calculators but I just don't know enough to fill them out properly. In recommending 500W I'm assuming you saw that I want to have the ability to add a 2nd vid card?

In the 500w arena I'm looking at the following PSUs so far:
CORSAIR HX520w
SeaSonic M12 SS-500HM

Right now there's a $25 difference on Newegg for the S-12 600W and S-12 500W. If you found a S-12 600W somewhere that made that difference of $10, wouldn't you snap it up. Well, its possible to get better for less.

If you really are going to add a second card and not just dream about it, get the 620 Corsair.
The gains of SLI/Crossfire are not great enough for me to justify a second card.

And I'll probably agree with you in the future when I make the decision and do more research. I just thought it would be a good idea to allow for the addition.

The Corsair HX520W will provide plenty of power for your system with a Crossfire setup. I'm putting my money where my mouth is because I just purchased one this past Sunday. It's a nice, solid feeling power supply with industrial grade components. The modular cables are great because they free up space for better airflow. The cables with this particular power supply are nice because they are flat, thin and much easier to tuck away and hide. You can even run them under the motherboard for a cleaner layout if desired.

The difference in price between these (620W@$180, 520W at $117-$129) is not worth the minor current increase on the 12V line.

Edit: The 620W can supply 600W=50A on the 12V. The 520W can supply 480W=40A on the 12V. 40A is enough for anything you can throw at it including a high powered crossfire setup.

I really hope that Enhance is paying you some serious dough or at least offering some sweet merchandise as commission. :) You've definitely earned it with the sales you've generated here. If they're not then let me know and I'll fire off an e-mail to demand that Baked gets his bread!

Just went down the same path -

Bought a SilverStone Strider ST60F - one big honking power supply - modular with more cables that I can ever imagine I will use.

My other choice was the Corsair 620 or 520.

I paid about $130 shipped from ZZF.
