According to the FBI, over 1.5 million background checks on customers were requested by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in December. Nearly 500,000 of those were in the six days before Christmas.

It was the highest number ever in a single month, surpassing the previous record set in November.

On Dec 23 alone there were 102,222 background checks, making it the second busiest single day for buying guns in history.

The actual number of guns bought may have been even higher if individual customers took home more than one each.

The portion you quoted looks contradictory to me.

The 1st sentence says it's those already owing guns hording more.

The 2nd sentence says the opposite.

And you simply cannot have over a million background checks occur and claim "fewer and fewer people are owning more and more guns."

Which is not to say that I agree with the Brady campaign, which I offered earlier, but rather that Spidey routinely ignores any information that doesn't fit into his paranoid fringe whack fantasies.

And... how is that not made easier with a gun? Are you so stupid that you don't realize that a gun is MUCH more useful for offense than defense? If I walk up to you and shoot you in the head, that gun still sitting in your holster wasn't worth much, now was it?

NRA fear mongering is what's happening. Jesus a few months ago their rhetoric was along the lines of "Obama is doing nothing about gun control so he can take your guns".

It's actually getting pretty sad even for the NRA.

The Obama campaign’s strategy goes like this:

Neutralize gun owners and NRA members as a political force in the upcoming national election by pretending to be pro-gun or at least not focused on pushing a gun-control agenda;

With gun owners neutralized, Obama will be able to win the election. After the president is re-elected, he won’t have to answer to voters because he won’t have to face another re-election battle;

It is fitting for americans to buy all these guns, because americans really are their own worst enemies. The people they vote for, the wars they allow themselves to get steered into. It looks like the drums are beating for Iran now. And none of the dumbed down sheeple will ever stop to question why they need another war, or what the enemy ever did. They just accept it and go along with it. I wish all these people who allow themselves to be manipulated would just march out into the streets right now and shoot each other with their shiny new pistols.
