This thread is part informational and part B&M.
Wife had a rock-solid Toshiba Laptop.
Laptop was getting slow so she sells it a buys a "better/faster" HP Pavilion!
Within 2 months the unit starts having problems (a good sign).
The unit boots up but the cursor is frozen on the desktop and will not move, probably a driver/device issue with touchpad - right?
We get online and get HP support to "correct" the problem. This sucks as online support is sooo slow.
Within a week the problem returns.
I come to her rescue and recommend getting rid of the HP bloatware and install XP Pro.
I install XP Pro and everything is fine for a week.
The problem returns!
I call HP and get a nice Indiam lady who asks a few questions, puts me on hold and proceeds to tell me that I VOIDED THE WARRANTY by loading a BETTER OS!
I asked if I reloaded the XP Home Edition with bloatware, would I get tech support - I was told yes.
Moral of the story:
1 - DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT purchase an HP laptop.
2 - If you already own an HP or decide to buy against my warning DO NOT upgrade your OS or you VOID your warranty.
