Another Reason I Hate BestBuy

Spooner

Lifer
I bought my cell phone from them a while back and paid an extra $40 to get their 2 year service plan.

The antennae recently broke off and I went trekking down there to get it replanced. Simple screw off and switch. The friggin manager tells me that the antennae is not covered and that only "normal wear and tear to the actual phone" is covered. So, I'm like.. "what is considered wear and tear then?" he tries to tell me that, for example, if a key stopped working, or if the battery doesn't hold a charge. I try to tell him that that would be covered under the manufacturer's warranty, but he simply shrugs.

What a waste of $40 freakin dollars. Best Buy service plans are a JOKE!

Now...... where can I get a replacement antennae for an LG 5350 for cheap?

Best Buy will claim that a service plan will cover everything at the time of sale, but after that point there is slim chances of being able to get anything fixed.

LAST time that ever happens

I'd keep complaining until I wore them out.
I was planning on it, but they didn't even have my phone in stock and there was no way I could get a simple antennae, so I got pissed and walked out

My car has a bumper to bumper warranty covering all parts and labor. If a headlamp burns out they will replace it. If I take a sledgehammer and bash it in, they will not.

I dont think this is Best Buy specific... I seem to remember when I got my cell phone originally, the Verizon guy said antenna replacement was not covered under any of their warranties either.

Never buy a Best Buy service plan unless it is for a big ticket item like a big-screen TV or something.

i bet that'll fix it 😉
cool plan, but entirely too much effort for a $10 antennae replacement

that's hardly a fair comparison. a small, thin piece of plastic breaking off should be considered normal wear and tear.... AND the antennae should be considered part of the phone.

I guess this is another reason for me to like Sprint. When I had the old Qualcomm TouchPoint I either lost or broke the antenna off several times. All I had to do is walk to one of their centers and got a replacement antenna for free. The most hassle I got for my troubles is the lines at the center.

I don't think the antenea actually does a whole lot. It fell off my cellphone, never made a difference.
Most cellphones aren't connected to the antenna. The antenna is just there for looks, for the people who think they need one - just a marketing feature to make sure some customers won't be excluded from their product. The real antenna is actually built in to the body of the phone. So I'm not at all surprized that it didn't make a difference for your TommyVercetti. Spooner, can you actually tell a difference in reception?

come to think of it.... it's hard to tell. I think it does make a difference in those "tougher to get signal" areas... where I'd have like only 1 bar.... without antennae, i notice i get none... or the dreaded "roam"

Some phone don't even have those extendable anteneas anymore, just a built-in "bulge". I kinda miss those old 80's phones with huge anteneas.

Yeah.. In your case Best Buy is the third-party shmuck who talks you into a phone plan. Chances are you'll have to go to one of their centers to get any help.

Only time I bothered paying for their so called service plan is for my car amp. The dude said if anything goes wrong with the amp within four years from purchase, I can go back and get a new one, no questions asked. Hopefully I won't have to test their "no questions asked" bullshit.

You shoulda placed the (.) after the word "plan."

I bought one for my wide-screen TV which cost ~$2000. And that is only because the cost of shipping the TV in the event repair is needed was more than the cost of the service plan. With the service plan, they pay for shipping.

Anything else, I wouldn't buy one.

I bought my Logitech 560Z's there for $120 ($180- giftcard) and purchased the 2 year replacement plan for $30. I took my speakers in for replacement because they were making static noise when I crank up the volume. BB wanted me pay them $$$$ so that they could ship it out for repair, I asked ISN'T THIS A REPLACEMENT PLAN I BOUGHT? They said no, not for large speakers. So I just left with my speakers, called Logitech and all they wanted me do was send in my control box. Sent that in and 2 weeks later, a brand set of 560Z's. I am a happy camper.😉
