Gaming build, nothing to hardcore.. though I'm wonder if I'll need a stronger to keep the gaming up at 1080p?

Getting more than 8GB of ram doesn't do much, though ram is fairly cheap anyways.

Waste of ~$100 or so on the i7 when you could have gotten an i5-2500k instead.

It's not crucial for a gaming rig, but an SSD would have been nice too.

Recommend dropping the i7 back to an i5 and using the difference in cash to beef up the video card to 2 GB level. The VRAM will help with the eye candy in games and speaking of that I would recommend the AMD 6950 2 GB giving you better price, more VRAM and equal or better gaming performance.

Thanks for the input guys, no aftermarket cooler for now.. don't plan on overclocking right away.

As for the i5 vs i7, is there a big difference in encoding? I forgot to include that in the OP.. I do a lot of blu-ray encoding.

As for the video card, I'm gonna grab this one instead.. Only $50 more after rebate XFX Double D HD-695X-CDFC Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

I agree with scaling back the i7 to the i5 and reducing the RAM to 8GB in order to fit a better GPU into the build. The 6950 2GB is a good choice.

If you're ripping them from the disk, that will be the limiting factor, not how fast you can re-encode them.
