Another RAID 0 question?

I have set up 2 150gb velociraptors in raid 0 using on board mobo controller. Whn I tested the performance using atto my read speeds are higher at about 170mb/s max but my write speeds stayed the same at about 130mb/s. I saw no write performance increase. Is this normal with a RAID 0 set up?

hmm, that does sound kind of odd, it might be the on-board controller. Raid performance will vary from controller to controller.

What is your onboard RAID controller? ICH9/10R? NVRAID? JMicron? What?

EDIT: Just noticed your signature; assuming you're using that setup, your RAID is based on NVRAID, which is notoriously bad at RAID 0. You may want to consider enabling write caching in advanced properties for your drives, but that would also put you at risk of data corruption in the event of power failure if you happened to be writing at the time.

I am using the on board NV RAID.

Here another question. If I just want to move from the onboard raid to a separate RAID controler card, do i have to reinstall windows? or Can I install the card, then the drivers and switch the HDDs to the card or will there be a conflict in having 2 raid drivers installed at the same time?

Thinking of getting the Rosewill RC 211 controller for $30.Its got to be better than my on board raid. Prolly not the best controller but I just spent a load of money on upgrading my video cards.

EDIT: Ive been doing some reading and this sounds like its not going to be possible. Guess another re-install is in my future.

Yes, you have to reinstall Windows. Yes, more than likely, you'll have to mount drivers during the install so it recognizes the array in the setup.
