Another question for Audiophiles

As far as digital cables are concerned. Optical or DVI, does it matter how much money you spend?
I don't think it should because it is a digital transfer, and not analog. I know that with speaker cables(analog)
it is important to get good quality cables but with digital transfer does it matter?

Are all optical/dvi cables the same?

I have to buy a dvi cable for my projector, and I don't know if I should spend the 300 bucks for a monster or
will a cheapo NXG 50 dollar cable work just as well.

ever at $50, it's still too much, I paid about $15 for a 2meter dvi-d dual link cable. it works for me.

Monster cables are mostly rip-offs.
You can get the same or better quality for less.

you might want to buy from a company with good return policy, as 33ft is outside the dvi spec.

outside the dvi spectrum. hmmm, that means it wouldn't work period.

so then why are they selling 33 feet cables? would i need to get some kind of signal booster to put in the middle?

outside the spec doesn't mean it won't work.. just means it may not xfer with optimal quality..

You might try component cable.. the signal quality difference isn't all that noticable in many cases. Also.. As long as cable is made well, it doesn't matter how much it costs.. check online for cable retailers that don't charge an arm and a leg. Monster is way overpriced. Gold ends don't make much difference, and neither does their blah blah flex plastic jacket etc..

As far as optical cables or digital coax goes.. Optical can have poorly finished ends which can cause jitter in the signal.. but that's about it. Just go with a decent quality digital coax and don't worry about the optical. Digital coax is cheaper anyhow.. You can use high quality digital TV cable and put ends on it.

I do have a digital component cable running to it. I figured if I was gonna be tearing up my celining, I might as well put in a dvi cable as well.
