Another question about references...

gopunk

Lifer
so a i'm trying to get a research position this summer with a prof, and she asked if there was anyone she could email for a reference.... she is looking for knowledge of perl, unix, probability, good programming skills. i have 3 groups of people the references will come from... one knows i know perl and unix, one knows i know probability and statistics, and one knows i have programming skills. so which do i give her? should i just give her as many as possible? or should i reply back and ask what info she wants from the reference?

Give her all three and tell her "this one is for the perl reference, this one is for unix, ect."

She's not going to expect you to have 1 super-reference that will vouch for everything.

I might just somehow let her know that these people can vouch for different skill sets. And let her know who to contact for what. Don't go into too much detail there.
