another question about memory...CL2 vs. CL3...what's the difference plz???

is the cl for cycle length??? when adding memory does the cl have to match what's already in, and if so, is there a way to determine what the cl is on the already installed memory???

Column Access Strobe Latency, 2 and 3.. cl2 has a lower latency than cl3 (obviously), it may take 3 cpu cycles for the cl3 memory to be written to each time, where it may only take cl2 2 cpu clock cycles.. ya all the memory will run at the same CL, what kinda motherboard do you have? what kinda memory do you have in there now? if its crucial it should have a label stating the CL on it.. hope this helps....

CL 2 = better performance. and good ram can be put to cas2 like the crucial ddr memory which says its 2.5 but can easily be set to 2.

In reality its not 33% better performance as you would think with CL2. Performace difference between CL2 and CL3 is pretty low. Expect in memory intensive apps and OC'ed procs. btw, if you mix the two types they all run at CL3.

Cainxinth, PC2100 is better then PC1600. PC2100 gets its name from being able to transfer over 2gig per second on 133Mhz DDR bus. 8 x 2 x 133 million.
