I am going to be running a computer with:
AMD Athlon X2 4400+
2gigs of OCZ RAM
eVga GeForce 7800GT
1 Floppy drive
1 Hard drive
2 optical drives
3 Case fans
2 light kits
In the future I might also get more light kits.

What should I get for a PSU? My tower case came with a 420Watt one, but I have heard some horror stories about things happening with psus that aren't powerful enough.

I am looking to spend less than $100, and would like to buy from newegg. I would like to go with something 500watts or higher.

No you wouldn't you want a 450W fortron or maybe a 430W Seasonic, hell 400W would still do you well enough but you'll never belive that no matter what i tell you :D

The one you have now is probably crap, a decent name 350W will run that without blinking.

Suggest relaxing your $100 ceiling a bit.

To power that nice set of components you've got there, my 1st choice would be

this one.

or for a little less $$, 2nd choice would be

this one.

or for even less $$ stoop way down to 3rd choice of

this one.

You don't say what mobo you have. As you probably already know, if it's DFI you need min 480W, regardless what other opinions you read.
