I'm building a new rig for internet/audio/video/ etc. (not for gaming). Been researching/reviewing stuff for like 2 weeks now. Here it is:

MSI K8N Neo Platinum
Athlon 64 2800+
Kingston ValueRam 512MB
MSI Radeon 9550-TD 128MB
WD Caviar SE 80GB SATA
NEC 3520A DVD±RW
Antec SLK 1650B Case
Logitech X-230 2.1 Speakers
Microsoft Basic Value Pack KB/Mouse

I'm planning on gettin everything from a store here in Canada...RB Computing and build it myself. In US dollars it comes to $600.
So what do u think?

Is that a 754? Step up to 939, and get the Neo2 Platinum. 939 and 754 are very similar in price. With 939 you get to take advantage of dualchannell.
Other than that, nice choice of parts.

if i go with 939 it will be about $55 more...
heard dual-channel doesn't improve the performance much
and also..i went with s754 (nforce 3 250Gb) since it's been proven to be very stable...you know...i kinda trust it more than the newer nforce 4

It looks like a fine system, but I see no reason to distrust Nforce 4 at this point. I bought mine in Jan. and it has been nothing but stable at stock and OCed very nicely once I played around with it a bit. Nforce4 has been good to me . . .

i'm just sayin that 250gb seems to me like o rock solid platform...but yeah nforce4 should theoretically be much better..i dunno...didn't test any so far..so i'm just assuming..
and also..with the $55 i save there i can buy a better monitor...haven't even decided yet what to get...17" LCD or 19" crt.....oh well....i guess google'll be my companion for another couple of days. 🙂

At this point, AGP is actually pretty smart because
a) there are no significant performance differences and
b) AGP is getting cheaper now that PCI-e boards are available.

That said, as far as the 939 vs 754 thing goes... +1 vote for 939.
Also, 1 gig of RAM would be a good idea if you could finagle it.

Stay with 754, there is still a lot of value in it. Get some $79 1gb Corair value, it will be a worthy upgrade.

i'll see how the 512mb stick behaves by itself and then..maybe when lonhorn is out..ill add another 512mb
