Read all about it here at Tweakers Asylum.

<< So just how high could we go? Well as you can see, all the way up to 2.4 GHz!! That's an 800 MHz overclock using an AVC "Sunflower" P4 cooler! We were able to reach this speed by using a FSB of 153 MHz >>

These "A"s are lookin' mighty fine, don't you agree?

It looks like VIA's motherboards aren't the only thing that benifit from an "A" at the end. Wow, that is a really nice overclock. It almost makes me want to go over to the dark side. Then again, I don't think so. The only way the P4s can reach that speed is with DDR, and this makes the P4s perform worst than they did before at the same speeds.

Oh yeah, these CPUs are really awesome.

Here's my setup:
ASUS P4B266-E + P4 1.8 A, got it to 140MZ FSB, so now it's running at 2.5GHZ for several days without any hickup, voltage is at 1.65.
I can't push it any further then 144MHZ, but I guess that's due to my APACER RAM. Maybe I can try it with INFINEON CL2 modules, but what do I care, I'm very, very satisfied :D.

And temperatures don't go above 38° with the stock HSF (as far as I can tell when shut down and take a quick look at the BIOS, ASUS PROBE always shows 40°, but that's a known glitch at the moment).

I'm currently racking my brains as to whether to go with a 2000XP + KT266a or a P4 1.8A/2.0A GHz + 845D rig and these success stories are really luring me toward Intel. But what I'm really after is that legendary stability than Intel's motherboards provide. I'll tell you what, 1 month ago I wouldn't have even considered an Intel rig. My, how things change...

ASUS P4B266-C

P4 - 1.6A running at 133fsb so 2.13ghz @ 1.60V
the cpu temps haven't even risen from non-overclocked temps! but then again mbm5 and asus probe could both be wrong

wow your overclock seems to be one of the unlucky ones

most people get 133fsb @default volts

No one is mentioning exactly how they are overclocking these things. Are they multiplier unlocked? Cause there is probably not much room to overclock the memory and FSB that much to get an 800 MHz CPU o/c. Anyone know?

all modern intel overclocks are done by adjusting the FSB, as the multipliers are locked. good components have no problem with higher pci and agp speeds. the fact that all of these oveclocks of 600 mHz, 800 mHz and even more are happening shows how much overhead there really is with FSB. it also doen't hurt that Intel is going to be moving to the 133 mHz FSB soon, and some p4 motherboards already have support for it. BFG10k, i definitely hear you. a month ago i also would never have even thought about a p4 box, but a northwood system is looking VERY appealing right now. i don't know if you have seen one up close, but the mounting system intel uses for the heatsink is delicious. if there isn't an indication that AMD will be releasing the T-bred cored chips by April, i'm probably going to sell my mobo, CPU and heatsink and buy a 1.6 or 1.8 gHz northwood combo (i'm probably looking at a p4x266a or sis 645 mobo, though. i've never had a problem with VIA chipsets, so i don't have a problem considering them. the features of the sis chipset make it very appealing, though, at least to me).

Where did you pickup an E-version of that board and how much was it?

I haven't had that kind of luck. My most stable has been 2.7 on a 2.2. I hit 2.77 but not stable.

Hey P4266 users, did you change the jumper that upped the voltage to your ram on the motherboard?

I have a sneaky suspicion its my kingston pc2700 ram thats the bottleneck.

I got it where Í live, in Germany. I wonder why the P4B266E isn't sold in the US, here it's out for at least half a month.
Price was 230.00 EURO, shocking, he? But it's always the same. I just don't get it why hardware is so cheap overseas. :|

I've got a 2.0A that can hit 2.64ghz with 1.775v but I run it around 2.5ghz at 1.65v most of the time. It seems the 1.6A,1.8A,and 2.0A are actually the same chip as they all seem to top out at 2.5ghz with 1.65v. My chip can hit 2.3ghz with default voltage which is around what the 1.6A and 1.8A are doing as well. The best thing though is even with these major overclocks these intel chipsets are still very stable. I havent crashed ever since I built this thing 1 month ago and im running 500mhz above spec.

Edit: BTW dont want to change the topic of this thread too much but where can I pick up an AVC Sunflower? Using the retail fan right now.

I jumped on the intel bandwagon.

i bought an MSI 645 Ultra w/ the 1.6a, i was gonna get the 1.8 but figured why spend the extra bux. from what everyone is posting they both seem to oc abou tthe same. .

anyway, the MSI board is available at newegg for $73.00.

dbwillis, I have the p4s333, got it last week, make sure you check the cpu:mem ratio in the bios, if you are going for a big overclock you should leave it at 1:1 for memory speed=bus speed

if you run at 100mhz fsb for the cpu and you have ddr333 ram then set the ratio to 3:5 for 166mhz ram clock (=333ddr)

Dertimining the ram speed is a little complicated,

take your fsb speed and divide it by the first number of the ratio then multiply that by the second number of the ratio,

example........

for a 3:5 memory ratio at 100mhz fsb divide 100 by 3 = 33 times 5 = 166 mhz memory speed,

also the available ratios change depending on the fsb, so if you are at say 150fsb cpu the ratios are 1:1 4:3 and 4:5 (i think)

so if your cpu can handle 150mhz fsb then leave your memory at 1:1 (if your memory can do 150mhz)

or to have the memory run at less than the cpu fsb set it to 4:3 in this case it works out like this, fsb is 150 divided by 4 = 37.5 times 3 = 112mhz memory speed

I have a 1.6 now but I have a 1.6a on the way, it wont be here until next monday though :(

I am REALLY hoping it will do 150mhz cpu fsb, that would be awesome to get it to 2.4ghz with 300mhz ddr memory speed :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Slacker,

That's exactly where I am at.. I've got a 1.6a on a Gigabyte 8IRXP running at 2.4 (150x16).. all with retail cooling and Arctic Silver II. This setup has been a dream. By far the easies OC I have ever done :)

BTW.. For all of you potential AMD converts.. I'm coming from a Athlon XP 1800+ @ 1.75ghz and haven't looked back yet. :)

Wow, that's cheap.
19.00 shipped.
Is there anyway change the fan to make it quieter?
I didn't see anyone selling 70mm fans.

have you guys done any stress testing with your setups? or have you just been running the desktop overclocked? hehe just wondering cuz it would be easy to overclock when you don't stress your cpu to find out if your system is stable or not

Yes, I know that I have.. my wife just completed an all night fest of Solitaire and Free Cell. Not one crash.

Will the MSI 645 work with standard power supplies like the Asus boards or it needs special P4 power supplies?
