Well because the 165 is off of Newegg and the 165 is $332 on Monarch, which would be better here?

San Diego 3700+ @ $233.00
Venus Opteron 148 @ $222.00

They operate at the same frequency and I bet the Opteron overclocks more but I just want to be sure. How's the Venus core do OC wise? It'll be paired with an A8N-SLI Premium and my 1GB Corsair TCCD set of memory.

I would still get the 165 from monarch.

But from these two, I would get the opteron because opterons are server grade chips, more thouroughly tested, better silicon and more likely to overclock better.

My 148 got here overnight from newegg, and is priming 2750 right now @ 1.5vcore (Haven't tried lower vcore or higher clocks YET, so might do even more.)

Nothing goes wrong? I may finally have a chip to stick with until I move to Next GEN dual core. (I'm probably not gonna bother with this gens dual core unless prices tank at least $100.

What week/stepping did you get? I'm thinking of ordering one of those too.

[edit] never mind, just saw your post in the other thread. I haven't seen any 0542s before; will be interesting to see how far they go.

my 148 CABYE does 2.8GHz on stock voltage. If I had the choice I would go for the Opteron.

Well, putting price aside the Opty is the better chip performance wise and in OCing. So if you want best in performance go Opty.
