"If you quit before you're 35 years old, you have a chance of salvaging your health" (as if you never smoked). I'm against smoking and I think this gives young kids a reason to smoke... very bad.

i can see your point.
at least the dude on the radio didnt say "smoking will make girls think you are cool" (which it will)

they have to realize it will also may you stink... which is the worst part of seeing a hot girl smoke (not that I've had a chance to sniff any chicks who smoke...)

EDIT>>> My cousin smoked.. lived with us a few weeks and she stunk whenever she came back from her smoke-breaks... couldn't stand it.

yeah, it was *really* hard. but they knew what i was going through, so they were considerate to not smoke when with me, or even before they were going to meet me. still sometimes i can smell it a little bit, even if it's only in my imagination (or not, who knows).

The lungs are one of the few body parts that can actually regenerate. But it's based on how damaged they are. If you smoke long enough and then stop after many decades of smoking, you aren't going to get better, but you'll at least stop getting worse. If you stop early enough that you haven't been smoking real long and you have enough of your life left for them to heal, your lungs will start to regenerate over time.

Smoking will make girls think you are cool? What decade are you living in? Smoking has become the biggest turn off to most people. I won't look twice (well, maybe twice but not 3 times) at a girl who's smoking and I know lots of girls that feel the exact same way.

Anyone thinks that by smoking, other people think they look cool, is an idiot.

maybe so. but it doesnt work the other way around. as soon as i see a hot girl smoking, she loses some of that hotness value IMO

I smoke occasionally (once a week, never more than that.), and the biggest barrier to smoking more often is the smell. If I want to smoke, I wait until I'm either just about to go to bed or just about to take a shower, I go smoke, then I come back and clean myself off and change clothes, if I can. The lingering smell is just horrible.

What a bunch of bull. If a smoking(pun intended :D) hot girl is waiting there for you and asks you: "Hey ATOTer, you will never EVER find another girl, I'm social, let's boink." What would you guys do? "Nah, you smoke, I don't fvck smokers."?

This is just what I thought. I quit in '97 after smoking for ~8 years myself.

Hotness value, he said. There's a difference between that and wanting to do it like bunnies.

What planet did you get that idea from? What's so cool about smelling really bad, coughing, and nicotine stains?

I dunno. In college I always targeted the girl's who smoked. Why? It shows a tendancy to make bad decisions and a little more wildness in character. ;)

but its true. Why keep lieing to people about the hazards?

If you quit young your lungs and health return to normal and you are no longer at risk for smoking related illnesses.

Bullsh!t. Within a few years at the most your body will purge itself of pretty much all the negative effects of smoking. Unless you're in your geriatric years and have already abused your lungs for enough decades to the point where you need external oxygen to breathe, your body is prefectly capable of reparing the damage regardless of how old you are. I have no idea where they got the "before 35" crap. The only way that works is if they leave off the phrase "... the quickest" and imply that your body begins to fall apart at that age.

ever hear of a 50-something year old dying from lung cancer as a result of smoking ? Does all the black sh!t in your lungs go away as a result of regenerating ?

Then why all the attention to "smoking is bad for your health" ? What do anti-smoking advocates have to gain ?

Have you not seen the latest CDC reports on second hand smoke?

This comes from any article I've ever read about quiting smoking...you can indeed return to normal risk factors.

It also comes from my doctor.
