He co-wrote Eskimo Blue Day so he gets to go to heaven for this alone.

Mentioned this in one of the earlier threads. Since December the number of celebrity deaths has been seemingly particularly high.

Not a real big surprise for either Bowie or Kantner, both were in bad health. Kantner was a heavy cigarette smoker who had a pretty massive heart attack last year.

Dallas Taylor (drummer for CSNY) also died in January.

Given the advancing age generally of these guys, plus the amount of abuse they put their bodies through one should expect them to be dropping like flies over the next few years.

I will miss Kantner though. The Airplane was my favorite rock group through high school and college.

This was my favorite Jefferson Airplane song. I know these guys abused themselves and are getting up there, so its not surprising. Still, its kind weird - you think famous people from a youth culture (even if it was 40-50 years ago) are going to stay young forever. Well, at least in my mind they are. Kind of sad for a NorCal person like myself. San Francisco used to be a pop culture hotbed for the world. Used to be that artists, musicians and misfits in general could afford to live there and contribute to the avant garde atmosphere of the place. Now its just a bunch of tekkies, social media types and Chinese immigrants. Boring in other words.

I'm convinced he's preserved.

Thread title should be changed so no one reposts....

Though I am not a fan of theirs, I respect them for finding a place in music history.

RIP, Paul

Well I meant no disrespect and was a fan of the Airplane. My favorite album though was "Blows Against the Empire" from the Starship. The later Starship tended towards more commercial crap but BATE is a massively original and underrated album. I do believe they consumed mass quantities while making but Bill Hicks answered that question a while ago...

Agree about the song and the changes in norcal. My favorite cut from that album though was "Embryonic Journey" by Jorma Kaukonen.

I traveled the country with my older brother in 1974. We left NY and headed west through Canada on the Trans Canadian Highway then south from Vancouver BC to San Francisco to meet up with friends. We arrived on the day Nikon resigned and that night there was a large impromptu gathering at a park near Fisherman's Wharf -- there wasn't too many unhappy about the demise of Tricky Dick in that park that night, but there was a distinct 'air' about the place.

Anyone who thinks that deaths come in threes will never make it into mensa.
Are you saying that the sequence,
A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, A10,...
is not the same sequence as
(A1, A2, A3), (A4, A5, A6), (A7, A8, A9), (A10...
??
Who's not getting into Mensa? :p

I saw OP's thread title and wondered which member of Queen had died. Sadly, it's another one of my favorite bands when growing up. :( RIP

Truth. The guys from the 60's and 70's will probably last longer in general. Once cocaine was popular, it was all down hill healthwise. The early rockers were mainly into psychedelics like acid, psilocybin, mescaline, etc. Meth and other amphetamines were around but I don't think a lot of people were into that. I'm pretty sure the phrase "speed kills" originated in the 60's. Oh and I forgot heroin.

The difference between heroin and coke though, in terms of health, is that heroin probably didn't have nearly as many toxic chemicals in it as coke did. Coke was and probably still is refined using gasoline and a few other toxic chemicals. But you can make heroin just by treating morphine (from the first cuts of the poppy) with acetic acid.

Also, coke fucks up your heart. If you manage to survive doing it long term either your heart will give out or you get cancer from the toxins.

This is strange

Original Jefferson Airplane Vocalist Signe Toly Anderson Has Died
Read more at http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/origi...signe-toly-anderson-died/#Ek6y5GkofKKI3t8V.99

Coincidentally, Anderson also died on the same day as her former bandmate,
Paul Kantner
, who passed away on January 28th after suffering multiple
organ failure and septic shock. He was also 74.

That is truly bizarre. Also Marty Balin of the Airplane turned 74 (Kantner's age) the day after Kantner died.

BTW Signe Anderson was only with the Airplane very briefly-pre Grace Slick.

I was unaware of either her role in the early Airplane or her death on the same day as Kantner.

It's like the baby boomers are stepping on banana peals and slipping into the volcano.
